#GivingTuesday
As the day comes to a close we hope that you have learned more about our organization and are inspired to help. This is about more than just monetary donations. Though we at OKK9 appreciate every penny that is given to us, there are numerous other ways that you can help our animals.

Clean out your closets and donate your unused clothing and household goods to our thrift store -- every cent raised through thrift store sales goes to the care of our animals.

Your donations of dog and cat food fill our pet food pantry and help keep lake area pets from going hungry.

Your time is one of the most valuable things you have -- become a volunteer and help in our thrift store or shelter building.

If you haven't joined our Facebook fundraising group, please head to facebook.com/groups/OKK9fundraising for fun ways to win great prizes while supporting our cause!

Watch our page to learn about our Shelter Animal Angel Tree donation program for Christmas, which will start this week.

Our #GivingTuesday fundraiser link will remain active for several more days, so please consider a later contribution if you haven't been able to yet.

To everyone who has donated, shared and help spread the word...OUR ANIMALS THANK YOU!

12/01/2021

Our #GivingTuesday posts could never be complete without honoring those people who dedicate their very hearts and souls, blood, sweat and tears to OKK9. These are the people who work directly with our dogs and cats every day. They clean the kennels and scoop the p**p. They work on weekends and holidays, because the animals don't understand our calendar. They feed the hungry, medicate the sick, nurse the injured and comfort the scared. They are the employees of OKK9.

Working with shelter animals is a life full of highs and lows! Even the ultimate goal of adoption can sometimes be bittersweet when one has so heavily invested a part of themselves into seeing an animal thrive. Our employees love these dogs and cats like their very own. Ask any one of them and they will tell you that these animals have changed their lives. It takes someone with a strong mind and an even stronger heart to work with rescue animals and OKK9 certainly has a group of dedicated employees who give all they have and more!

Today -- and EVERY DAY -- we thank our OKK9 staff:
Angi Uber - Shelter Manager
Meri Tilley - Office Manager
Ashley Henry - Medical Lead
April Tollison - Canine Enrichment
Brandy Simpson - Enrichment Assistant/Animal Care Technician
Makayla Turner - Animal Care Technician
Autum Smith - Animal Care Technician
Charlie Brown-Adkins - Animal Care Technician
Rita Lahti - Animal Care Technician
Penny Braker - Thrift Store Manager
Shawn Taylor - Thrift Store Retail Associate

And we must not forget our Board of Directors, without whom we would never be able to accomplish our goals. They are pet owners, fosters and volunteers. This dedicated group spends countless hours working on behalf of our animals and staff, helping us achieve bigger and better things every year.
Mark Engstrom - President
Linda Hamman Mathews - Vice President
Jennifer McGregor - Secretary
Pamela Petropoulos - Treasurer

One of the easiest ways to help our animals can be done from the comfort of your own comfy couch -- liking, commenting on and sharing our social media posts! The more often you interact with a page's posts, the more they will show up in your feed. If everyone who likes our page would share just one post a week, our reach would skyrocket! And the more views we get, the more likely our animals will find their forever homes.

Did you know that you can raise money for OKK9 just by shopping on Amazon? The next time you are shopping online, use the link smile.amazon.com and when you are asked what charity you want to support type in "Ozarks Kat and K9". Everything will be just like your usual shopping experience except that after you check out, Amazon will donate 0.5% of your purchase to your chosen charity. That may not seem like much, but when everyone does it those little amounts can really add up!

We also have wish lists set up on Amazon and Chewy where you can purchase needed items to be directly shipped to us:
Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1MS8JZVDX9CBB
Chewy - https://www.chewy.com/g/staff-dba-ozarks-kat-and-k9_b71562581

Whatever you may choose to do to help, just know that we appreciate every bit of it!

We would like to take a moment today to recognize and thank all the rescue partners we have worked with in 2021. Because we are a small rural facility with limited space, we are able to utilize these partnerships to help many more animals find homes than we can do on our own. In some cases, these are organizations who specialize in specific breeds or medical needs.

A huge debt of gratitude goes to the following:
Wayside Waifs in Kansas City, MO
Five Acres Animal Shelter in St Charles, MO
Pawportunities in Blue Springs, MO
KC Pet Project in Kansas City, MO
Unleashed Pet Rescue and Adoption in Mission, KS
Great Plains Mastiff Rescue in Edmond, OK
Great Plains SPCA in Merriam, KS
FIV Felines, Transports and More in Holts Summit, MO
Whispering Willows Senior Dog Sanctuary, Inc. in Hermitage, MO

We also need to recognize a very special couple, Mark and Lana Singer who have a special place in their hearts for senior dogs and cats and have taken several of our older furbabies into their private home sanctuary over the past two years. The world needs more people like these!

#GivingTuesday
A lot of work must be done before the animals in our care are ready for adoption. Every animal that gets adopted from us is spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, current on vaccines, given dewormer and flea & tick treatments. Many animals come to us in need of much more medical care than that. We could not accomplish all of that without our current partnership with Lake Dog and Cat Veterinary Hospital in Laurie, MO. Dr. Mark Lucas and his staff work with us a daily basis to make sure our pets are in tip top shape to head to their forever homes!

We would also like to thank the many other lake area veterinarian offices that have helped us over this past year. We can't do this without you!
Laurie Animal Hospital in Laurie, MO
R Veterinary at The Lake in Linn Creek, MO
Osage Animal Hospital in Osage Beach, MO
Lake Pet Hospital, Inc in Eldon, MO
The Spay and Neuter Clinic in Sedalia, MO

A special thanks also goes out to @R Veterinary at The Lake for their sponsorship of our weekly Lake TV segment to showcase our adoptable animals, KB's Furry Friends!

OKK9 would not exist without the countless hours put in by our volunteers. We are forever grateful for those individuals who choose to spend time working at the shelter building and the thrift store, driving for animal transports, promoting our organization at events, and the endless other activities that help us achieve our goal of helping animals. Today we sing the praises of these unsung heroes!

If you have some extra time on your hands and would like to spend some of it helping our animals, we would love to have you. You can work at the thrift store, sorting and displaying donations and helping with sales. Or head down to the shelter building to walk dogs, socialize with the cats...we'll even let you scoop litter boxes if you are so inclined! Set your own schedule--work as few or as many hours as you wish. We're flexible! Come in and talk to us about volunteering. It takes a village to save animals and our village is the absolute best!

Starting now, Facebook will match up to $7 million in donations to qualifying non-profit organizations. Whether you give $5 or $500, every little bit adds up!

At a time when we are all experiencing the chaos of the current world, generosity is what brings everyone together. Generosity gives everyone power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is something we all can act on. This is a day for everyone around the world to give back in all ways, no matter who or where we are. We all have something to give and every act of human consideration and kindness matters.

We announced earlier this week that the Thrift Store would be temporarily closing on Mondays for a bit. Fortunately things have been worked out now so that will not have to happen. Our regular operating hours will remain in place for both buildings.

Please watch our pages for any upcoming weather related closures, as winter will be upon us before you know it. Thank you for your understanding!

As tourist season ends and cooler weather rolls in, more and more area residents are needing help with pet food. The need will only increase throughout the winter months. Sometimes a bag of food each month is enough to help keep a beloved family pet from needing to be rehomed.

Our OKK Chow Corral helps lake area families who need assistance with dog and cat food and kitty litter. We get calls and people stopping in every day of the week needing food assistance. ANY BRAND of dog or cat DRY FOOD is greatly appreciated to let us help lake area pet owners in need.

Donations can be dropped off in person at the shelter building. If you prefer to order online, items can be shipped to:
