Today the USPS Annouced new pricing for 2018.

The Postal Service™ filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) today of price changes to take effect Jan. 21, 2018. The new prices, if approved, include a one-cent increase in the price of a First-Class Mail® Forever® stamp from 49 cents to 50 cents. A great time today speaking to Future Candidates for political office about Fundraising Tools and Events at The Leadership Institute in Arlington, VA. I had my first opportunity to speak there 25 years ago when my former partner Dan Morgan asked me to substitute for him. I had only been in the business 6 months but he gave me his notes and I somehow got through the hour. LI is a great organization that's done so much for so many who are pursuing their dreams.

Postal Stamp Update. You may have noticed new verbage at the bottom of certain first class stamps. Many now have descriptions on them instead of $dollar amounts so the post office can keep up with the rate changes without having to print new stamps. Essentially they are making them all “forever”, but the word “forever” can only be used on 1 ounce letter stamps (currently $.49).

For example: Stamps that have a value equal to the extra ounce rate, which was $.20, then $.21 and now $.22 no longer says “22 cents” on it, but says “additional ounce” instead. The postcard rate now says “Postcard” instead of 35 cents and the 2 ounce stamp now says “USA Non-Machineable Surcharge” instead of 71 cents.

Today Morgan, Meredith / Direct Mail Marketing Group will drop at the post office over 250,000 pieces of mail. This comprises about 10 different mailings we’ve worked on the last two days, each of which has anywhere from 5 to 7 matches per piece of mail. A lot of eyes and a lot of quality processes checking the details to make it right.

Todd and Dan both taught classes today at the Leadership Institute. How to write and orchestrate a Finance Plan and successful Fundraising Events.

Todd had two members of congress ask him yesterday if email fundraising is replacing direct mail fundraising. Consider this startling fact from the February issue of Association Meetings Magazine: The open rate for direct mail is 92 percent, while the open rate for email is only 12 percent.

It just gets better and better! During the first quarter of 2011, Morgan, Meredith & Associates orchestrated 35 fundraising events, mailed over 2,850,000 pieces of “High-dollar direct mail” and raised over $14,750,000 for its clients.

Postage rates will be going up on April 17th! The first ounce for both letters and flats will remain unchanged ($0.44 and &0.88 respectively) but each additional ounce will be $0.20. Non-Profit Standard rates aren't going to change much, and Media Mail rates will be going up about $0.05.
