You all know who Jelly is, she's the bright little ray of sunshine who graces our feed from time to time. But I don't think you've ever been given a proper introduction to her. You can read her whole story in the link below to learn more about this incredibly difficult, but incredibly necessary part of cat rescue. It is one area we don't often share much about, but we really should, because we pour almost as much money into these fragile souls as we do our love.

MEET AGGIE

The first of our fospice cases that we would like to share with you is Aggie. When Aggie first came to us at two months old, she had a dim future ahead of her. The cardiologist gave her less than a year to live.

That was four years ago.

In that time, she has racked up quite a bill, and we have never asked for help for her. In addition to the almost $6,000 we have spent on her since Aggie came to us, she also requires about $1500 per year to maintain her health and monitor her heart condition.

The success stories that we’ve brought to you in the past have been, at their core, pretty simple - we rescue a cat, we treat a cat, we adopt a cat out. Today will be a little different. To celebrate , we will be introducing you to a different perspective on what a success story looks like. Today we present: our Fospice Tails.

What is fospice, you ask? Fospice is essentially what it sounds like - hospice for cats. Typically our fospice cats are those who are terminal, but we do have a few who have medical conditions that are extreme and/or expensive, but are otherwise healthy. These cats are then placed in a foster home that is capable of and willing to care for these cats during their final chapter.

Through all of our fundraising efforts, we have never openly asked for help with any of these cases, because it’s hard to introduce cats that we know will not have a long happy life with a new adoptive family. But just because we are reluctant to raise funds for them does not mean their expenses do not exist.

Some of our fospices require very expensive specialist visits and/or tests, most of them require multiple monthly meds, and a lot of them require extra supplies that do not fall into the category of “medical supplies”. We will spend some times talking about these expenses in each cat’s story, and how you can help on a recurring basis, but for today, our goal is to raise $10,000 to help offset the bills that these kiddos have racked up this year.

Introducing our newest "Kitty"!

It's our pleasure to introduce Calathea Rufibarba "Soft Kitty"!

Yes, it's a plant. And yes, it really is called "Soft Kitty"! This plant is SO COOL! The underside of each leaf is covered in the softest, most velvety fur. We cannot stop petting it. I mean, feeling it? Is that less awkward?

We have a few of these lovely furry babies ready. They're perfect for our supporters who claim to be allergic to cats, and who still want to help support cats. They are truly hypoallergenic! They also happen to be non-toxic for households who already have some of the toothy sort of fur babies who might be looking for a snack.

Please consider opening your home to one of our Soft Kitties. These are easy to grow plants who do well in medium to bright light and are much less demanding than our typical soft kitties. We have also lowered their adoption fee to a cool $20, just in time for holiday shopping. If you're interested, let us know and we can set up an adoption interview.

In all seriousness, The Plants At Longstreet is a coalition of plant addicts who grow plants to sell to benefit The Cats At Longstreet. If you're interested in plants and like to help cats, please don't hesitate to reach out and we can tell you more about what we might have in stock.

Lets close out the week of black cats with Spooktacular Seth 🦇👻 (& sister Alexandra!)

Seth and his sister Alexandra came to us as wee bottle babies 5 months ago. They have been learning how to be cats in a foster home ever since! They have seen some of their foster siblings be adopted but their time has yet to come.

Their foster notes that Seth and Alexandra are incredibly social and outwardly friendly - the greet you at the front door kind of cats. These monochromatic siblings are the perfect combination of playful antics and sweet cuddles - ideal most homes. Need not one, but two cats to snuggle up to you at night? Perfect. Fill out that application.

Seth and Alexandra enjoy each other’s company but we would not consider them bonded. We would love to see them go together, but they can be adopted out separately to a home with an existing young, playful cat.

🎃 Mischievous Mable 🎃

Mabel is a young and bouncy cat who is eager to find someone who will embrace her energetic and loving personality.

She is a tad mischievous (foster family found her once standing on top of a door?) and will romp around your home while undoubtedly giving everyone a good laugh. She is very intelligent and we have the feeling she would appreciate a good puzzle toy for fun. Interactive toys too!

On the same note, Mabel just appreciates good company. She is fantastic in the Biscuit Business and is happy to take a zoomie break alongside you on the couch. And if your home has a cat tree or perch to watch the outdoors? Sold.

Mabel would be happy as a solo kitty in a home with plenty of enrichment or with another cat after slow introductions.

Spooky breakfast with Frittata! 👻🍳

Once a spicy “feral” kitten, Frittata has mellowed out very nicely but remains on the shy side. With patience and love, you can earn her trust, and she’ll reward you with her soothing purrs and allow you to pet her silky, shiny fur.

Frittata loves to nap in her cozy pineapple bed or on a warm pile of laundry fresh from the dryer. She’s an avid bird and squirrel watcher, spending hours at the window, entertained by the world outside. Playtime is her favorite time, and she gets along wonderfully with other cats and her siblings, making her a perfect addition to a multi-cat household. Like the other kittens we’ve posted this week, she must have a friendly cat companion.

While Frittata is a playful and affectionate kitty, she would thrive best in a home without small children, where she can feel safe and secure. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a bit of a wild side, Frittata might just be the perfect match for you.

Another Halloween void kitty highlight - the last two Beans! 👻🫘

You have also already met these guys! If you recall, there were five Beans who we raised from newborns. Three went to adoptive homes and Adzuki and Garbanzo have been waiting forever for their own chance at a home. Two leftmost photos are Adzuki and the two rightmost are Garbanzo. Can you see the signature “Bean Sultry Gaze”?? All five made the same squinty eyes 😁

Adzuki is a kitten with a perfect balance between play and love. He is a little bit more independent than his brother, but that does not mean you won't enjoy his company on your lap while you sit and watch TV. He is a very serious biscuit maker and his foster mom usually wakes up to him curled up at her legs. He has a ¼ length tail with little kinks which is mega cute (especially when it p**fs up when he is startled!).

Garbanzo is a very special character. He is playful like any other kitten, but this kid is *needy*. He will beg you for attention by climbing right up to your shoulders. He does not mind being held at all (if it is his idea, of course) and will sploot his back legs out behind him in your arms. His purr is nonstop and he will show appreciation for your attention by showering you with kisses (yes, like a dog). He has zero tail whatsoever, just to add to the cute.

Both boys are great with other cats. We would love for them to go home as a pair, but they are not bonded with one another. We are not requiring they be adopted together, but we do require that they go to a home with at least one other younger cat or kitten. They really enjoy romping around with the other kitties in their foster home.

We thought we would introduce (or reintroduce!) some of our black kitties during this last week of October 👻 many of them have been available for a while and we are shocked at the lack of interest.

You have all met Virgil Mandragora before! He came to us in May as an incredibly tiny preemie baby who survived all odds thanks to his fabulous foster mom. He has since moved to another fabulous foster home with younger kittens for his tween-teen stage.

Virgil has a very distinctive face that consists mostly of just ears and nose. He is gorgeous and he knows it - look at that sunny spot pose. And he is FLUFFY! Not in a long-haired cat way - he just has some p**f to him! He gets along great with his foster siblings and the foster’s own personal cats as well. He is inquisitive yet sweet - a lap kitten all the way. We can’t believe he has not been snatched up.

Virgil is not bonded to any other cats or kittens in the rescue, but we do require he go to a home with another young cat or kitten. This allows for kitten energy to be released on something other than your curtains (for example!) and for him to continue learning “how to be a cat”.
