Did you know? The Potomac River has supported agricultural communities for thousands of years! American Indians fished, hunted, and grew corn along the riverbanks, and many farmers do the same today. Our rivers and waterways are truly highways to the past

Water-Powered Aldie Mill Turns Once Again
Watermills were once vital for farmers to grind grain and corn into flour, meal, grits, and .... mash for liquor! Love to see this teamwork and to see the Aldie Mill at work. Too cool!
Water-Powered Aldie Mill Turns Once Again The 200-year-old Aldie Mill was turning once again Saturday, with its waterwheel-powered millstone grinding grain for Middleburg’s Mt. Defiance Distillery.
We just received a Standard rotary sewing machine and treadle table along with photos from the Stowers family. The items belonged to Mary Hope Worley who passed away this summer. Mary Hope worked in Fairfax Public Schools where she served as Principal for Centerville ES, Layton Hall ES, and Sleepy Hollow ES.
The Stowers family owned a 200 acre cattle farm along Evergreen Mills Road, where the Dulles Greenway and Simpson Middle School are located.

We love our volunteers!
