Happy Juneteenth!

Happy Juneteenth from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®!

Today, we honor the spirit of freedom, resilience, and progress.

On June 19, 1865, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas finally learned they were free. This day, now known as Juneteenth, marks a delayed but powerful moment of liberation.

For generations, our communities have honored this day, and in 2021, Juneteenth was officially recognized as a federal holiday, a long overdue step in honoring Black history and resilience.

As we reflect, celebrate, and continue to uplift our communities, let us never forget the power of justice, unity, service, and sisterhood.

In collaboration with the Breaking the Cycle, Protecting Our Future Wear Orange event, the Advocate for Social Justice Committee organized a voter registration drive. Members of Upsilon Pi Omega assisted in registering members of the community. While we raised awareness, members stressed the importance of registering and electing representatives who will vote on critical issues like gun violence legislation.
