In Memory of Cream Cheese đź’ś
Our sweet Cream Cheese crossed the bridge yesterday after a courageous battle with cutaneous lymphoma, a form of skin cancer not commonly seen in American rabbits. Cream Cheese was 10 years old.
Cream Cheese was a survivor of the Binky On fire and I traveled to Florida in mid February to bring her back to CT. Shortly after arriving in Bunlandia, I noticed a lump on Cream Cheese’s hind end. That lump would come back as cancer, so we did all we could to make Cream Cheese’s time with us the best we possibly could. We celebrated her 10th birthday in March. We moved her into a prominent spot in my home. She got extra treats. Instead of referring to myself as “Auntie” to the buns, I was now “Momma” to Cream Cheese. She was on hospice, but I'd be damned if we weren’t going to give her the best of the days she had left.
Cream Cheese would begin to develop more tumors and they would grow rapidly. She was losing weight, but still happily eating her food and doing the occasional binky or periscope. She was happy. This week everything seemed to accelerate. The tumors grew quickly and her mobility was now affected. The initial tumor on her right hind end, combined with another large tumor on her left side, became almost like saddlebags on her. She was now up to 6 visible tumors and another tumor behind her eye that was causing suspected damage to her sight. For the first time since developing the tumors, she began to bite at one. Her eating slowed. She was tired and she let me know she was ready. Thursday evening, we spoiled that girl like you wouldn’t believe. Cuddles, as many cookies as she wanted, forage and alfalfa hay mixed in with her timothy. A generous side of fresh strawberries with supper.
Cream Cheese crossed the rainbow bridge peacefully just before 9am yesterday morning. It was peaceful and she was surrounded by love. I didn’t know her long, but I am so grateful to have had these last few months with her. Binky free my sweet southern lady.

Introducing Sophie 🎀
Yet another dumped bunny, Sophie was found outside and caught by her finder. She is young, likely just under a year. She has a minor case of ear mites and will see the vet early next week.
If you would like to donate to Sophie's initial vet visit including a f***l sample and initial RHD vaccine, you can do so here:

"mY rAbBitT iS fInE oUtSidE!!"
🙄
Connie, after having 5+ embedded ticks on her removed would like to (dis)respectively disagree. Some were so deeply embedded, that they will need to be examined during her vet appointment Friday. Connie got some strawberry as compensation for being a big brave girl!
As would our newest intake tonight, who has a nice little case of ear mites. You'll meet her tomorrow.
Oh and for the umpteenth time, STOP DUMPING YOUR PETS!!
We are tired, a little cranky, and now jumping into the shower because we have the heebie jeebs. Ticks are gross 🤮

We are so excited for Northeast Bunfest this weekend! We are bringing a van load of awesome bunny items and of course Benji will be with us!
We have these two large framed items that we are not planning on bringing, BUT if just have to have it, we will take a 50% deposit and you can pick up at Bunfest!
The fairy frame measures 26 inches wide ny 38 inches tall. The garden bun is 33 inches wide by 27 inches tall. Frames are included with both.
If you are going to Bunfest and would like either of these pieces, let us know! Or if you are local to Connecticut and would like them, reach out!

I want to take a moment to clarify something I said in Connie's introduction post. In describing her story, I used the term "meat rabbit." I did this because when that term is used, it is instantly clear what her fate was. However, I hate that term, because the reality is there is zero difference between a pet rabbit, meat rabbit, or a lab rabbit. They are just terms used to classify and I believe rationalize that how meat/lab rabbits are treated is "acceptable."
Over the years, we have had several "meat rabbits" come into rescue and they have been all breeds (even little Jane was intended and bred for meat). Every single "meat rabbit" has quickly shown how thankful they are to be safe and gone on to have wonderful lives as cherished members of their adopted families. In fact, Bunlandia would not exist were it not for two "meat rabbits", Odin and Hercules who came into my life and quickly changed the course of it.
So yes, while Connie was technically meant to be a "meat rabbit," you won't hear us refer to her like that going forward. She is so much more than just what some humans intended for her.

Introducing Connie đź©·
Connie's story is one we know all too well. She was living the life of a "meat rabbit," but when a number of rabbits escaped, Connie and one other rabbit couldn't be caught by the farmer. Sadly, the other rabbit was hit by a car. Connie though was lucky. She was found by a fellow rabbit owner and the farmer signed Connie over. Apparently, Connie kept escaping. She wanted to live.
Connie is a big girl and underweight for her size. She has some eye discharge and other minor concerns we will address. She is scheduled for her first vet visit later this week!
A huge thank you for our emergency foster/transporter extraordinaire Emily for dropping everything and driving across the state to bring Connie to Bunlandia! Emily also brought Link to Bunlandia a few weeks ago!
