Before playlists and podcasts, Black radio was the heartbeat of the culture—breaking records, amplifying voices, informing communities, and creating lasting legacies.
Join the National Black Radio Hall of Fame on Saturday, August 8, for “The Golden Era of Black Radio,” a special fundraising event honoring the late Doug Eason and celebrating the legendary broadcasters and pioneers who helped define Black radio.

On this day in 1985, the unstoppable Tina Turner lit up the stage at Madison Square Garden during her legendary Private Dancer Tour. Fresh off the massive success of Private Dancer and hits like “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” “Better Be Good to Me,” and “Private Dancer,” Tina proved that reinvention has no age limit—and that true stars only shine brighter.
Her electrifying performances at MSG on August 1–2, 1985 became part of one of the most celebrated comeback tours in music history, cementing her status as the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
