Local Harvest Grocery
Open for in-person shopping! St Louis City's Local and Organic Grocery Store.
Pick up grass-fed beef, locally grown produce, local eggs, beer and wine and plenty of organic dry goods.
Daily update for Tuesday, 1/7- we're here, thanks to our superhero employees who were able to walk in today! We'll be closing at 7 so everyone can get home safely.
Arsenal and Morganford are mostly clear but all the residential streets around us are still a mess, and parking is very limited. If you're already out and about today, stop by and see us- but don't get out and drive unless you have to!
Weekly Harvest deliveries are delayed until tomorrow. Weekly Harvest pick ups are ready whenever you are, but no rush! We'll hold them until you can make it in safely.
We're planning on normal hours tomorrow, stay tuned!
Local Harvest Grocery is closed today, Monday 1/6. We hate to do it, but we just can't get in to the store safely today.
If you had a Weekly Harvest share scheduled, we'll hang onto it for pick up any other day this week! We're hoping to get deliveries out tomorrow.
Be safe out there and happy snow day, stl! Go make some French toast with all the milk, eggs, and bread you bought!
UPDATE: we'll be closing at 2 pm, so get here soon if you need anything!
Happy snow day โ๏ธ We made it in safely so we're open today, Sunday 1/5! If conditions worsen we may close early- we'll keep you posted!
If you didn't join the rest of the entire city grocery shopping yesterday, don't worry, we've still got milk, eggs, and bread!
A New Year's Day Haiku:
We're open today
start the new year off with us
we have fresh citrus ๐
Found this in some old filesโ-the manual for our very first register for Local Harvest Grocery in 2007. It was big time fun to โprogramโ that baby.
Local Harvest will be open all day today from 9 AM to 8 PM and limited hours tomorrow on Christmas, 10 AM to 2 PM. Stop by for your last minute snacks, drinks, and local gifts!
We're usually the only grocery store open on Christmas, and we love being here for our customers. We wouldn't be open if we didn't have staff who wanted to be here. We've had some refrigeration issues this week, so please bear with us as we're working to have everything restocked and operating smoothly for the holiday!
If we don't see you, we're wishing all of our friends, staff, customers, farmers, and vendors safe and happy holidays this week ๐๐โ๏ธ
๐ California citrus season is here, earlier than ever! Organic navels, mandarins, lemons, and grapefruit are in, straight from the Putt Family Farm in Bakersfield, CA.
Like all of the best local produce we stock, this citrus is so good because it's grown with care, picked at peak ripeness, and transported directly. The mandarins are so fresh they still have leaves ๐ฟ We say it every year, you'll never go back to conventional grocery-store citrus after these, they're just too good.
Blood oranges and cara cara oranges ripen later, so watch out for them in the coming weeks!
The week of Thanksgiving is the busiest time for a little grocery store like us, so we wanted to take the time now to send a big thankful shoutout to all of our customers, farmers, vendors, friends, and neighbors who make it all possible. We wouldn't be here without every single one of you ๐
Today is our big turkey pickup day, with fresh birds brought to you by Buttonwood Farm and Double Star Farms. If you didn't pre-order a turkey with us, we can put you on our waitlist. We've got extras on order, but the sizes will be more limited. (These pasture-raised babies all grew a bit bigger than expected this year, so larger sizes, 20+ pounds, will likely be left)
We'll be open our regular hours tomorrow, Wednesday 11/27, and as always we'll be open on Thanksgiving from 10-2 PM. Friday is back to business as usual, 9 AM to 8 PM.
If we don't see you, have a safe, happy, and healthy Thanksgiving, and we'll catch you on the other side โ๏ธ

This week some of our staff got to visit and tour 3 Girls and a Tractor's pumpkin patch and farm in Marthasville, MO. We toured over 4 acres of pumpkin patch with so many different types of pumpkins, gourds and squash, several greenhouses still boasting tomatoes, and fields of fall crops like turnips, kohlrabi, and beets. They also have bee hives to assist with pollination, and they utilize crop rotation to reduce w**d and insect pressure each year.
John and his family deliver to us every Tuesday, and we've been getting van-loads full of a huge variety of fun pumpkins for carving, decorating, and eating, along with the best winter squash like red kuri, autumn frost, kabocha, buttercup, mashed potato, acorn, butternut, and more. If you can't make it to the pumpkin patch, we've got it all right here at LHG!
Thanksgiving turkey reservations are open! Every year we partner with Buttonwood Farm and Double Star Farms to bring us the best, pasture-raised, hormone-free, antibiotic-free, fresh-never-frozen local turkeys.
Reserve your turkey or turkey breast in-store, over the phone, or online. There are 3 size ranges to choose from, small 12-14 pounds, medium 15-19 pounds, large 20+ pounds, as well as full or half breasts. The price is $4.99/pound for whole turkeys or $9.99/pound for breasts, and since we won't know your exact size until pickup, we'll just charge you a $10 deposit to reserve. We'll order a turkey in your preferred size range, but exact sizes are first-come, first-served on each pick up day.
Due to our limited space, you must pick up either on Saturday, 11/23 between 1-3 PM or Tuesday, 11/26 between 4-6 PM. The turkeys are refrigerated, never frozen, so plan accordingly!
Reservations are open until Sunday, November 17. Thanksgiving is just over a month away, so it's time to start planning! And a big, special thank you to our farmers for planning for this since last spring!

Each fall we get some of the best local apples from Liberty Apple Orchard in Edwardsville, and last week our staff got to take a visit and do some apple picking!
Liberty is a family-run orchard in its eleventh year, growing 20 varieties of apples including specialties selected specifically for our hot and humid summer growing conditions. Sustainable practices like integrated pest management, pollinator habitats, cover crops and mulching are in use, and minimal protectant spraying is employed to guard against pests and disease.
Each apple variety ripens at a slightly different time, so we got to pick fuji, braeburn, empire, ultragold, and sweet zingers (a new cross between Goldrush and Sweet 16). Luckily we can also rely on Steve to bring us weekly deliveries, so our staff picking event was for fun and not labor ๐
We highly recommend you take the 30-minute drive to visit Liberty Apple Orchard, but we're stocked full of their autumn bounty here at Local Harvest if you can't! ๐
Local Harvest is open on Labor Day, 9 AM to 8 PM! Stop by for the best local fruits and veggies- including both seeded and seedless watermelons, the tastiest end-of-summer tomatoes, and the first apples of the season. Don't forget a cold beverage- we've got the best kombucha on tap from Confluence Kombucha and tons of cold beer ready to go!
It's gonna be a beautiful day out, grab some provisions and get out there! โ๏ธ๐๐๐ฅ
Local Harvest's annual staff float trip was a success yesterday! By closing the store, our whole staff was able to take the day to relax, recharge, and restore on a beautiful stretch of the Meramec River. It was a perfect time full of great friends, excellent food, and even a bald eagle sighting (zoom in on the tree in the second photo)!
Thank you for your understanding while we were closed for the day. We're back and ready to rock for another year until the LHG staff float of 2025!
๐ถLocal Harvest Grocery will be closed all day today, Monday, August 26, for our annual staff float trip ๐ถ
This is the one day we close all year, and we look forward to this rare time when all of our staff can spend a beautiful day together.
Sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding!
We had a farmer tell us recently that he had trouble selling to other bigger stores and distributors because of their strict standards for uniform sizing and appearance, making his inconsistently sized crops unmarketable. We have standards, but they don't apply to sizing and uniformity- in fact we love the various shapes and sizes our local produce takes, from monstrous zucchini to the cutest little patty pan squash and everything in between.
When it comes to standards, we're less about appearances and more about freshness, flavor, food miles, and sustainable practices. Uniformity is boring! We happily embrace the natural variation in local produce and we're glad our customers are on board.
August harvests are huge and we're full to the brim with amazing local produce- stop in and see us soon!
We're open our regular hours today from 9 AM to 8 PM. We're stuffed to the gills with cold drinks, meats and veggies for the grill, fresh burger buns, and so much more.
We love being here for our community, so stop by for any of your last minute needs!

Our Mission
Our mission: building a local food community. At least half of our products come from within 150 miles of St. Louis. We buy from local producers and artisans in all sections of our store: produce, dairy, eggs, meat, frozen items, bakery goods, bulk, prepared foods, health & beauty, and alcohol, in addition to a full line of organic groceries.
Buying local helps support area producers, and it's also more environmentally friendly. In addition, we encourage our customers to bring in their own reusable bags and containers for use in our produce and bulk sections. Buying in bulk allows our customers to forego wasteful packaging and buy only the amount they need, making it a more economical and sustainable way to shop. In our small store, youโll find bulk coffees and teas, herbs and spices, nuts, grains, seeds, and even cleaning supplies, shampoos, and conditioners!
Local Harvest Grocery also runs an in-store CSA program, Weekly Harvest. It is a year-round subscription program, sourcing from local farmers and vendors throughout the seasons. Our shares feature local, pasture-raised meat or a vegetarian alternative, lots of produce, free-range eggs every other week, and a monthly rotation of locally roasted coffee or tea, local grains, and local dairy. Members also get 10% off additional groceries purchased at the time of their CSA pick up. Please see our website for additional info or to sign up!
