Our High-school Graphic Design Class students came today to bring us our special books. They even took time to read them to each of us. We will be bringing them home today!
Such excitement as our butterflies are starting to hatch from their chrysalis’ today!
During work-time today the Hippos illustrated their own versions of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We are amazing and creative artist!
What a great day for Outside Work-time with the Pre-k Classes at ECE!
Our Hippos have been busy today as we made another journal representation of our caterpillar development (they are starting to form J’s on the top of the observation jar). We also copied some of our favorite insect words, played butterfly match, and used pretend bugs and kinetic sand for pretend play.
To end work time Mrs. Janice played an early subtraction game using pretend cookies. The Hippos loved counting how many were left, and telling tales of their family members eating cookies at their house.😉
Today Mrs. Emily taught us a new song butterfly song, about the stages of a butterfly. 🦋 As we observed our real caterpillars today we have noticed they are getting really big. We can’t wait to observe their next stages.
Though today wasn’t a great day to fly kites, we sure had fun making them. We began our group time by reading The Wind Blew and we’re great at making predictions of what we thought would happen next as we read.
During work time we made kites, used the wind tunnel and sequenced the story of The Wind Blew. Hopefully we can try out our kites tomorrow.
Today was Family Friday, and we celebrated what makes our family special. We began group time by sharing what we like to do with our family. Next we read the story of Little Elliot’s Big Family.
During work time we made our own family books, designed family y puppets and used them as props for our block area homes.
Today was Artsy Thursday! We looked at various famous artist work with Mrs. Janice’s Touch and Feel art books, and heard the story Ain’t Gonna Paint No More. During work time we made puppets, designed circle art, painted at the easel, and made beautiful collages with various materials. The Hippos sure like expressing their creativity through art!
Today the Hippos celebrated Work Together Wednesday by working with the Piglet Room. We also heard a story called Shark Trouble in which two chimps had to work together to solve a big problem.

Janice Schultz has been teaching at Lindbergh Early Childhood Education since 1994. She received her bachelor's degree, certification in early childhood education and master's degree from Missouri Baptist University.

Today at grouptime we talked about sometimes we have emotions that lets us know we may need to take deep breaths to calm down. We had a discussion as a class about how we can breathe in (smelling the flower) and blow out (blowing the pinwheel). We took turns practicing how to use the flower and pinwheel appropriately. The Hippos did an awesome job!! We were so excited to try out our new calming objects!

This week in the Hippo Room, we did a cooperative building activity with eachother. We took turns as a group putting a block on the structure that we create together. Afterwards, we had a discussion about what ideas that we can name our creation. The ideas that we as a team came up with are to call it a ramp, rocketship, slide, playground, machine, ship, and battle ship! We had a great time growing our brains together!!
