This house has been moving since it was built, 44 years ago. As I came around the east side, I imagined what it would take to correct the foundation movement. That's when I saw the neighbor's house. It had all the carbon fiber repairs I had imagined. This is evidence that the other house's foundations were also installed improperly. These wonderful people bought this house two years ago, under pressure to bypass the inspections. Think about the risk you take when you do that, friends. I am not including the location out of respect for the resident's privacy.

I saw these two houses on my drive into the subdivision. My client explained her concerns for a story she'd heard about recent hail damage in the area. I don't think that story was just a silly rumor. You can that someone duct taped over the holes to avoid moisture intrusion while waiting for the claim to go through. Wise move...

There's pressure to purchase a home so you bypass the inspection system. Check out this shocking honey bee story.

This house reminded me of the Wizard of Oz. The whole structure was just sitting on bricks. Barely any attachment. Waiting for another wicked wind storm to push it around again. Oh yeah...and termites, too. Paint and new kitchen cabs/counters does not cure this.

Wouldn't you love to have a "like new, still in original package" collectible from the 1950s? Here's a few bags of rock wool insulation for you. They're about 70 years old, but still in the package, like advertised. Wear your safety mask!

You know it's the day to change your clocks, right? It's also the day to change your smoke detector/CO detector batteries. Modern standards recommend a smokie in the common area (hallway) for every floor PLUS one smokie in each bedroom. A mixture of photoelectric & ionization types is best. If you have any gas fueled products, one CO detector per floor in a common area is satisfactory. Hard wired units are best, but not necessary as long as you test your batteries occasionally. Be safe!

This post is about knowing what your limitations are. What was this person thinking? "I love my stapler!" ???

I had to update my photo. These cards represent almost 20 years in business. Perhaps my motto should be updated, too? "DECADES of experience means thousands of happy homeowners"????

No stranger to danger! This is as close as I have ever come to falling through a roof. That's almost 20 years and more than 5,000 roofs I have walked upon. Don't assume your roof is ok because it doesn't stain the ceilings. Get it checked out. It's worth it.

I'm still working and I hope you are, too. (if you want to) This dude cheered me up yesterday in front of a house in Ferguson. As long as he stays out of the attic, I'm happy to see him.

This is a first for me, and I have been inspecting homes for nearly 20 years. Literally thousands of homes, & this is my first sighting of "Termite Art". The termites like the sticky part of a paper sticker on drywall and this is left behind. Does it resemble the Virgin Mary to you? Me, neither, but it's still pretty cool.
