Car Warranty vs. Car Insurance | Allstate

Difference between a Car Warranty and Car Insurance per Allstate.

Car Breakdown Safety
If you are in an accident or your car breaks down, safety should be your first concern. Getting out of the car at a busy intersection or on a highway to change a tire or check damage from a fender bender is probably one of the worst things you can do. The Insurance Information Institute recommends the following precautions when your car breaks down:

Never get out of the vehicle to make a repair or examine the damage on a busy highway. Get the vehicle to a safe place before getting out. If you've been involved in an accident, motion the other driver to pull up to a safe spot ahead.
If you can’t drive the vehicle, it may be safer to stay in the vehicle and wait for help or use a cell phone to summon help. Under most circumstances standing outside the vehicle in the flow of traffic is a bad idea.
Carry flares or triangles to use to mark your location once you get to the side of the road. Marking your vehicle’s location to give other drivers advance warning can be critical. Remember to put on your hazard lights!
In the case of a blowout or a flat tire, move the vehicle to a safer place before attempting a repair—even if it means destroying the wheel getting there. The cost of a tire, rim or wheel is minor compared to endangering your safety.

Todays Tips:

Water: Always keep a few bottles of water in your trunk

Full Gas Tank: You should have at least half a tank of gas in your vehicle. This will help prevent fuel lines from freezing.
Scraper and Brush: This might sound obvious, but it’s important to clear all of the ice and snow off your car (including lights). We’ve all been behind the car who has snow flying off their roof and onto our windshield. Don’t be that person.

Shovel: Keep a shovel in your trunk to clear additional parking or dig out from around your wheels.

Tire Gauge: Dropping temperatures will cause tire pressure to do the same. Make sure your pressure is at the appropriate level for your vehicle.

Salt (or Kitty Litter): Apply this around your tire for better traction on an icy driveway or your parking spot. This also helps to melt the snow.

Blanket and Cold Weather Gear: During the blizzard, we heard a lot of nightmare stories about drivers stuck in their vehicles. This is important for maintaining your body temperature if you’re trapped in your car.

Jumper Cables: Car batteries hate the frigid weather just as much as we do, so have these handy in case you or a fellow driver need them.

Emergency Roadside Kit: This is actually something you should have year-round, but its critical in the winter when car issues seem to pop up more frequently.
