Just plain silly, this is a plumbing vent on a 4 year old home that doesn't vent because of a cap.

Why you should say YES to a Radon Inspection
Radon is a naturally occurring odorless, colorless, radioactive gas that is created during the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rocks and sediments. Radon can seep into homes through openings or cracks in basement walls or floors. Sumps, basement drains, and spaces between gas or water fittings can also allow radon into the structure. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, radon is the cause of 20,000 lung cancer deaths each year.
If you are in the process of purchasing a home, talk to your Realtor about the importance of a radon inspection. If an elevated level of radon is detected, steps can be taken to lessen the concentration inside the home and you may be able to get the seller to pay for the mitigation system.
A Pillar To Post Home Inspector can conduct a radon test as either part of the home inspection process or on its own. An inspector will set up the testing equipment and report on the results once the proper measurement procedure is complete.

This is what the Infrared camera see's when we look into an electrical panel. Clearly with this panel, the main line was overloaded and too hot!
There's nothing quite like sitting by a gently crackling fireplace surrounded by family with a cup of cider or hot chocolate this holiday season. The essence of comfort and luxury , the fireplace is the focal point of a home. Below are some good fireplace safety basics when getting together this season.
-Remember to open the damper! I have many stories from a family member that is a local firefighter.
- Never burn pine or soft wood; it generally causes fast creosote build-up
-Do not overload the fireplace; even though it's tempting it can cause restricted air flow and dangerous levels of combustion.
-If you have a wood stove, make sure ashes don't build up too much. One to two inches is optimal.
- Never use pressure treated lumber; I have actually heard of people doing this. This causes noxious fumes to enter the home.
-Never burn any kind of trash, only use good seasoned hardwood.
- Play it safe. If anything looks or smells out of the ordinary while you're operating the fireplace, call a professional.
No Matter what type of fireplace you have, maintenance is key to safety. Merry Christmas & Have a wonderful Holiday season from all of us at Pillar To Post!
The seller of this home was an older gentleman who had lived there for nearly 60 years! and was kind enough to share with me this piece of American history...Too cool
With shorter days and the approach of winter, fall is a time of change. I thought with a nice weekend ahead it would be a good idea to take care of some basic home maintenance. Below are some easy tip for preparing your home for the winter season.
Outside the Home
• Check the roof for summer wear and tear
• Clean gutters and downspouts
• Inspect and service the heating unit
• Repair cracks in siding
• Repair any damaged masonry
• Insulate water pipes that are exposed to extreme cold
• Cover outdoor water faucets
• Remove screens, clean them, and store away for the winter
• Seal any concrete walkways
In the Garage
• Protect and cover lawn equipment and garden tools
• Drain lawnmower of gasoline and oil
• Check for leaks in the doors and repair
• Examine and repair the weatherstripping at the bottom of the garage door
In the Yard
The freezing and thawing of the impending winter can cause damage to outdoor furniture and your swimming pool.
• Cover and protect your patio furniture
• Drain the pool
• Trim tree limbs that could break under the weight of snow and ice
In the Garden
With the arrival of fall, you can begin your early garden work.
• Fill birdfeeders in time for migrating species, and keep them filled throughout the winter for resident species
• Add a protective layer of mulch to your perennials, shrubs, and trees
• Clean flower beds of spent summer blossoms and plants
• Turn the compost
• Remove the garden hose and place inside for the winter

Oops....look what was found hidden behind the wall in Juniors room!!
This is an easy fix, but to the contrary of what the people in Orange and Blue smocks say, Please do not use these traps!! They clog and can leak very easily.
