Great farriers are truly a gift, and we are so excited to be partnering with Jordan Bohall of Bloomington Barefoot Farriers for our equine hoof care. Healthy hooves are a huge focus of our program, but many of our equines have difficult histories with farriers, which can make trims challenging. Finding a farrier who cares as much for the animals as he does for their hooves means the world to us, and Jordan's calm and caring demeanor put us all at ease, even those busy mules!!

Taking care of sanctuary residents truly takes a village, and we are so excited to welcome Jordan into ours. We look forward to many more trims in the future! Welcome to the Compass Rose family, Jordan!

HELP WANTED: Part-Time Farm Associates

Compass Rose Farm Sanctuary is looking to hire 1–2 reliable, physically fit Farm Associates for part-time work.

Hours: 20-30 hours per week.

Shift Logistics: Typical workdays are roughly 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM, though daily times require variability and flexibility (for example, staying later if the farrier or veterinarian is on-site).

Schedule Note: Weekend availability is a firm requirement for this role.

Compensation: $15 – $18 / hour (depending on experience)

Location: Spencer / Owen County area

The Reality of the Job:
While working around our rescued residents is incredibly rewarding, this is a strictly hands-on, high-labor role, not a social animal-interactive role. If you enjoy hard, physical work outdoors and want an active job that directly impacts animal welfare, we want to hear from you.

Daily Tasks Include:

Heavy Lifting: Consistently lifting, carrying, and stacking 50lb feed bags and hay bales.

Mucking & Cleaning: Daily mucking of stalls, cleaning animal enclosures, and managing bedding/manure.

Habitat Maintenance: Scrubbing, bleaching, and refilling large water troughs; managing mud mitigation; and assisting with general pasture maintenance.

All-Weather Labor: Working outdoors in all Indiana weather conditions (heat, rain, mud, and winter cold).

Requirements:

Must be 18+ with reliable transportation to the farm.

Must have regular weekend availability.

Proven track record of absolute reliability (the animals depend on us regardless of the weather).

Ability to follow strict safety protocols and work independently after initial training.

Previous agricultural, equine, or heavy manual labor experience is highly preferred.

To Apply: Please DO NOT apply via Facebook comments or messenger. Send an email directly to [email protected] with a brief summary of your previous physical work or farm experience, along with your general weekly availability.

BUDDY IS HOME! 🥳🐷

Our Best Boy has officially returned to the sanctuary, and we are throwing a major celebration!

Buddy has had a really intense couple of weeks. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer, and then developed pancreatitis after the surgery. There are few things scarier in rescue than a pig not eating. But if it wasn't clear before (and really it was), it is certainly clear now that Buddy is a fighter through and through. He has healed beautifully, he is now eating, and he is officially back where he belongs.

We want to send a massive, heartfelt thank you to everyone who showered him with good vibes, prayers, and support while he was away. Your love genuinely carried him through.

A special shoutout goes to Michelle Youngman, who sent Buddy the ultimate homecoming care package packed with ALL his absolute favorites—including a massive stash of Fig Newtons!

Now that he’s back, he is getting thoroughly spoiled. We celebrated his homecoming today with his favorite activity: getting sprayed down with the hose. It's hard to tell through all that hair, but I feel certain that he was smiling!

Welcome home, Buddy. You kicked cancer's butt, you beat pancreatitis, and now it’s time to just enjoy being a pampered, loved, and very safe sanctuary pig. 💚💚💚

Todays agenda: Eat. Splash.. and Repeat!!

There is profound beauty in watching an animal's story change direction in a single afternoon. Today was one of those entirely transformative experiences that so deeply touch our hearts.

Our newest sheep arrivals still have a long road ahead of them—many of them literally have to relearn how to walk. But for the first time in a very long time, they will be doing it on clean, balanced hooves, backed by a proper diet and the specialized care they need for long-term health.

There are no farrier manuals that cover the level of neglect we tackled today. It required creativity, grit, and deep devotion to animals in need, and we could not have done this work without our dear friend, Emily Ellsworth of Flip Side Hoof Care. Emily has been improving the lives of our pigs for years, but today she pivoted to a task that was infinitely more complicated. She found ways—and used tools—we hadn't even envisioned to give these sheep the fighting chance they deserve.

The photos below truly speak for themselves. The swamp is behind them, and their healing is officially underway.

✨ HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT THEIR RECOVERY JOURNEY ✨

As many of you know, we decided to postpone our recent Roots & Radiance celebration so that our team could focus entirely on the mission of the farm, including this emergency rescue. We still have the beautiful, exclusive shirts and bags that we planned to introduce at the event, and we have decided to sell them now to offset the ongoing veterinary, farrier, and rehabilitative care for these sheep.

Because the thumbnails on our ordering page are a bit small, we have included clear, full-sized pictures of the shirts and bags at the end of the photo gallery below so you can see the designs!

If you'd like to grab some beautiful gear and support these sweet souls at the same time, you can purchase them directly through our secure Stripe links in the first comment below. 👇

Thank you for standing by us, for being part of our incredible village, and most importantly, for loving these beautiful sheep.🩷
