Your smoke, CO, and LP detectors are some of the most important equipment in your RVโ€ฆ and theyโ€™re often the most forgotten. ๐Ÿšจ

Most RV safety detectors only last about 5 years before they should be replaced.

At the start of each camping season, take a few minutes to:
โœ… Test every alarm
โœ… Check and replace batteries if applicable
โœ… Look for expiration dates on the back
โœ… Replace outdated detectors

These little devices protect you while you sleep โ€” donโ€™t assume theyโ€™re still working just because they arenโ€™t chirping.

Need help checking your RVโ€™s safety systems? TrailSmiths Mobile RV Repair can help make sure your detectors and appliances are operating safely before your next trip.

We come to you.

RV awnings are designed for shade โ€” not heavy rain, strong winds, or surprise Midwest weather tantrums. One gust is all it takes to bend arms, rip fabric, or damage the side of your RV.

We can fix this, but it breaks our heart every time we have to.

If youโ€™re leaving the campsite, going to bed, or storms are rolling inโ€ฆ put the awning IN. Your future self (and your wallet) will thank you.

We come to you.

This is why your RV should be inspected at least once a year. ๐Ÿ‘€

What youโ€™re looking at is a severely rusted RV water heater burner assembly. The burner tube is completely gone โ€” creating a serious ๐Ÿ”ฅ fire hazard that the owner had no idea existed.

๐ŸŒฑ Many RV appliance issues start small and go unnoticed until they become dangerous.

At minimum, inspect your appliances yearly ๐Ÿ—“ for rust, soot, damaged wiring, debris, or anything unusual. Or have us look everything over to help keep your RV safe on the road.

We come to you.

Why do RV toilet seats always have 47 tiny crevices underneath designed specifically to trap mystery grime? ๐Ÿคข๐Ÿšฝ You practically need a toothbrush, a flashlight, and emotional support just to clean the thing.

One of our favorite easy RV upgrades is replacing the factory seat with one thatโ€™s actually smooth, comfortable, and WAY easier to clean. Check out our choices here ๐Ÿ‘‡

There are two types of RV owners:
1. Those whoโ€™ve had a poopsie.
2. Those who will. ๐Ÿ’ฉ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ›ž RV Spring Maintenance: Donโ€™t Overlook Your Suspension ๐Ÿ›ž

Your RVโ€™s leaf springs are essential for supporting weight, maintaining ride quality, and keeping your axles properly aligned. Like any suspension component, they require periodic inspection to stay in good working condition.

Routine checks can help identify:
โ€ข Cracked or broken leaves
โ€ข Sagging or uneven ride height
โ€ข Worn bushings or shackles
โ€ข Loose or damaged mounting hardware

Ignoring these issues can lead to poor handling, uneven tire wear, and added stress on other components. We've even seen it cause a blowout!

For added durability and safety, many RV owners choose to upgrade components such as heavy-duty shackles or reinforced hardware to improve overall suspension performance. We can help with that!

๐Ÿ”ง Not sure what condition your suspension is in? We can help. Our certified technician provides on-site inspections and service to keep your RV riding safely and smoothly.

Contact us today to schedule an inspection or discuss suspension upgrades.

Take a peek UNDER your slideout and be sure that the Flex Guards are still intact. These flex guards contain your electrical wiring and ensure they stay in the correct position while operating your slide. If it breaks, you put extra stress on the wiring, leading to big problems in the future.
