Luke 24:6 “He is not here; he has risen!”

O death where is your sting? He has risen!

“How can a day filled with so much pain, be called good?”

Jesus was falsely accused of treason against the Roman Empire. He was betrayed by his friends, handed over to be punished, and sentenced to be crucified.

At the time, crucifixion was the cruelest form of death reserved for only the worst criminals. Jesus was beaten, bruised, and bloody while being forced to carry his own cross.

A sign stating “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews” and a thorn crown were placed to mock Jesus.

Jesus struggled for hours before taking his last breath. Darkness fell over the land. The curtain of the temple was torn in two. A great earthquake would occur.

It wasn’t until these final moments did they realize that Jesus truly was the son of God.

I don’t know about you, but this day seems like anything but “good.” So why do we call it “Good Friday?”

Deep down we know the darkness within ourselves. We are sinners. We mess up. As we think about these things we are worthy of nothing more than punishment.

There’s good news. Jesus loves us so much, that he died on that cross for our forgiveness. Jesus took that punishment, so we don’t have to. We need a Savior because we cannot save ourselves.

1 Peter 3:18 says “For Christ died for our sins once and for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit.”

While today may be filled with pain, we can remember the good that is yet to come. That promise given to us so that we may live in eternity.

“Let all the people of Jerusalem shout his praise with joy! For great is the Holy One of Israel who lives among you.” Isaiah 12:6

Greeted by cheering crowds, waving palm branches, and shouts of joy, Jesus made his triumphant entry into the city of Jerusalem.

Why palms? While some spread their garments on the ground, many placed palm branches to cover the road that Jesus was traveling. In the Gospel of John, palm branches represent victory and triumph.

As Jesus made his way, people would shout “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.” The word “hosanna” was a plea for salvation and an exclamation of adoration.

I don’t know about you, but how many days do you lie down in bed and think about all of the things that went wrong, stressed you out, or left you worrying about tomorrow?

In the book of Psalms we see one particular person go through times of extreme stress.

David.

Right from the time he was a shepherd boy, however, David enjoyed being in a close relationship with the Lord. David practiced being present in his faith. Doing so, David knew that the Lord would keep him safe. By giving his trust to God he was able to go to sleep without the stress or worries from the day.

David would confidently say in Psalms 4:8, “In peace, I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD will keep me safe.”

This verse reminds us that the Lord is in charge of today and all of our tomorrows. We don’t need to worry abyout what is to come. We can leave our burdens at the door knowing that God is watching over us and protecting us. He has a plan.

Today we pray that God continues to show us that we don’t need to worry about what tomorrow will bring. We pray that we can lie down in peace.

As humans, we like our independence. It becomes unhealthy though when we try to "do it all" and "be it all" on our own.

As believers, we recongnize that we need God and we need each other. The Holy Spirit empowers us with the spiritual gifts and abilities necessary to grow his kingdom.

The power of resurrection comes in living and working together in unity, recognizing and supporting the gifts, talents, and abilities of all others in the community of Christ.

Just like each part of the body has a purpose, we all have a unique and special purpose on this Earth.

Let us encourage one another and celebrate these differences!

Without Christians going into the world sharing the hope found in Jesus Christ, many will never hear of Him. It is our duty as believers to share this hope with all we come in contact with and those around the world.

At Alitheia Ministries, we provide the tools and support to help empower the next generation of Christian leaders.
