Rock Trio
Busy seasons of life for most band members mean sometimes only a couple people can make rehearsal, but this is a great opportunity to introduce our newest member— on the drums!
I discovered very recently (maybe I’m the last guitarist on earth to find out?) that one ingredient of Brian May’s amazing sound is using a serrated coin instead of a pick. I’ve been playing around with one, and really enjoying the metallic attack and pronounced overtones.
I’ve been a digital minimalist for a long time, but it’s taken a while for my convictions about the importance of living in the real world to affect the way I make music to the extent that they have been lately. The more synthetic the music around me becomes— and the more AI-generated music I’m exposed to— the more convinced I am that the music that will survives the current climate without losing its soul will need to be raw and imperfect and unmistakably real and human. Trading in my digital effects processors for some “real stuff” has been a significant inspiration in my creative process.
