I know how incredibly fortunate I am to have a mother who has loved me unconditionally and accepted me exactly as I am.

In my work as a mental health therapist, I hear heartbreaking stories from people whose parents turned them away before ever truly getting the chance to know them as a whole person. The impact of that kind of rejection lasts far beyond a single moment.

Because of that, I never take my own experience for granted. To be loved without conditions, supported without hesitation, and embraced fully for who you are is a gift I recognize more and more every day.

Today and every day, I’m grateful for a mother who chose love.

Happy Mother’s Day to my drag mother, Ali Kat, who introduced me to this art form back in 2003 when she included me in her talent number for Miss Gay Missouri America.

Standing backstage and watching the magic happen in real time completely changed my life. Drag opened doors to experiences, friendships, opportunities, and memories I never would have imagined possible otherwise.

So when y’all see me stressed because I can’t afford a vacation, just know… this is entirely Ali’s fault for opening the door, shoving me through it, and making me fall in love with this world.

I’ll be forever grateful for the push, the guidance, and the chaos.
