The ROCKS BEFORE SAND blog was created to share the journey of living life focused on the "ESSENTIAL ROCKS." Most of our lives, relationships, time, stresses, and anxieties tend to be wrapped up in the “sand” elements of life (the nonessential & non-urgent), not the essential rocks (the essential & the urgent). The “ROCKS BEFORE SAND" paradigm is about living life on the essential rocks. It is abo

I’m a sucker and I don’t even realize it. Of course I refuse outright lies & evil…but if it’s packaged with just a little bit of good, truth, or humor…I can be duped. What about you? Are you able to recognize the devil in disguise? 🔗in comments

What are your thoughts on AI?

I’ve always been an early adopter of technology but now I’m wrestling with the dilemma if I should use it at all.

I’ll admit the use of AI makes things so much easier. But for some reason, I’m coming to a pause and prayer before using it now.

This week’s blog shares that dilemma.

I have a confession. This week, after one too many news clips of chaos and evil, I literally said out loud: “Just come, Jesus.”

Translation: “Okay Lord, let’s wrap this whole thing up. Cue the judgment, send the fire, roll the credits.”

And then, about 30 seconds later, God gutted my heart like a fish. (Conviction hurts, y’all.) He reminded me I was acting more like James and John—the “Sons of Thunder” ready to smite the Samaritans—than like Jesus.

Turns out, God wasn’t calling me to quit on humanity. He was calling me to daily renewal—to soften my heart, die to my pride, and love people who aren’t like me. Painful? Yep. Necessary? Absolutely.

I wrote about it on the blog this week, and if you’ve ever wanted to just fast-forward life and escape the madness, this one’s for you.

Whether you’re raising a child or learning to walk with Jesus, one thing is true: growth takes time.

In this week’s Rocks Before Sand blog post, I’m celebrating Mother’s Day by encouraging both moms and new believers with a truth straight from Jesus’ parables in Mark 4.

This one’s for you, mama.
And for you, new believer.
Because God is growing something beautiful in your soil—even if you can’t see it yet.

If you’ve said “yes” to Jesus—woohoo! You’ve planted the most important seed of your life.

But here’s the truth: what happens next depends on the soil.

In this week’s Rocks Before Sand blog, we’re diving into the parable of the sower in Mark 4. Jesus explained how different heart conditions impact whether our faith grows, fades, or flourishes.

This post will encourage you to become the kind of soil where God’s truth can take root, grow strong, and bear fruit.

You’ll also find a guided prayer through each type of soil—so you can stay grounded in truth, no matter what life throws at you.

Let’s keep our hearts open, our roots deep, and our eyes on Jesus.
Because He’s not just planting a seed—He’s growing a harvest.

If you’ve recently said “yes” to Jesus—first of all, I’m celebrating with you! 🎉

That decision? It changes everything.
But let’s be honest… you might be wondering:

Now what?
What comes after the prayer? After the moment? After the “yes”?

This week on the Rocks Before Sand blog, we’re diving into exactly that.

➡️ What Happens After I Give My Life to Jesus?

Spoiler alert: this isn’t about suddenly becoming perfect or knowing all the answers.
It’s about starting a real relationship with God and learning how to walk with Him one step at a time.

In this post, I’ll walk you through:
✅ What to expect as your heart and habits start to shift
✅ How to grow closer to God without feeling overwhelmed
✅ A sweet (and a little cheesy) metaphor about how it’s like falling in love with your spouse

This is just the beginning—and I’m so glad we get to walk it together. 🔗in bio

Ever caught yourself calling a broken air fryer or a power outage a crisis? (Same.)

In my latest Rocks Before Sand blog post, I’m diving into what’s really behind our modern chaos: not a lack of info, not a lack of gadgets, power or internet, but a heart problem.

We’re not alone—God’s people have struggled with being “stiff-necked” and hard-hearted since the Old Testament. But there’s good news: He still wants to renew our hearts and draw us close.

Ever feel like your paycheck pulls a Houdini?
One moment, it’s there, and the next, it’s vanished—poof! 💨

Gone into the abyss of drive-thru windows, unused subscriptions, and that “emergency” Target run for “just one thing.”

Well, no more! It’s time to take control of your finances and save like a pro.

Being obedient to God with our money has dramatically decreased all of our financial stress, so I thought I’d share a few basics in this week’s blog: “How to Save Up: Simple Tips to Manage Your Money.”

✨ Learn how to:

✅Break up with your expensive coffee habit (don’t worry, you can still have caffeine).
✅Stop random subscriptions from eating your paycheck alive.
✅Build a savings cushion for life’s “uh-oh” moments—hello, flat tires!

Think saving money is boring? Spoiler alert: It’s way more exciting than being broke.

Happy saving,

Bethany

Have you ever been in one of those situations? You know, the ones where you need to “lead up,” but instead of feeling like a fearless leader, you feel like a cat stuck halfway up a tree?

Been there. 🙋

Sometimes, our plans, strategies, and self-help hacks just don’t cut it. (No offense, Pinterest boards.) We need to stop trying to climb solo and start leaning up on God.

In my latest blog post, “How to Lead Up: Trusting God Over Your Own Strength,” I unpack why leaning on God beats relying on our own chariots (or spreadsheets) any day. Plus, there’s a great reminder from Isaiah about what not to do when life feels like a steep uphill climb.

Let’s lean on God together! 🔗 in bio

Let’s face it—we all have our moments. Maybe you snapped at your spouse for not reading your mind (again), or perhaps a misunderstanding has left things...tense.

It happens to the best of us, but don’t let that awkward cloud hang around too long. God has a lot to say about love and forgiveness, and it’s laid out into practical, biblical steps for resolving conflict. (Bonus: This works even if kissing isn’t part of the plan! 😏)

Whether you’re ready to patch things up with your better half, a friend, or even that coworker who “accidentally” ate your lunch, we’ve got you covered.

Click below to read the post and discover how to kiss and make up—no smooching required.
