So did another drive around at 9 a.m.

Streets are mostly clear and I didn't see many spots where there is ice on the road, but there are several spots with slush, especially around intersections....STILL BE CAUTIOUS WHEN DRIVING AROUND!!!!

Didn't see any leaks anywhere, so well done to everyone!!!

I did see some houses with their trash cans out...reminder that Best Trash is NOT doing pick-ups today (Wed., 1/22) and normal service will resume on Saturday, 1/25. Not everyone has SlickText alerts or checks website or email or social media.

Park is open and still very pretty with the remaining snow. Everything is starting to melt, so grounds will be very wet for a couple of days. We will be turning the water back on in bathroom and water fountains early afternoon.

Tennis Courts are actually completely dry so they are playable, but it is still very cold, so dress warm if you're going to brave it for some tennis.

Fitness Center is open normal hours today.

Our office will remain closed today, but we will be open Thursday at 9 a.m. and back to normal operations.

Winter Storm Enzo Update #3, Wednesday, 1/22 @ 7:45 a.m.:

Best Trash service is cancelled for Wednesday, 1/22. Normal service will resume on Saturday, 1/22.

Forest Oaks Admin Office will be closed today. We will reopen normal hours Thursday, 1/22 at 9 a.m.

Park will be open today, but please use caution as snow melt from yesterday has frozen in some area and it is slick.

This morning is as cold as it’s going to get in Houston during the Arctic freeze, with temperatures bottoming out in many locations in the upper teens. From this point on we’re going to slowly warm up through the weekend. As temperatures climb today, roads will clear out nicely by noon, and we can resume normal activities in the Houston area.

Welp...we have snow and it is pretty cold outside, so maybe it sticks around for a bit today.

No official updates or issues to report as of 8:20 a.m. as everything looks good around the District so far this morning. Reminder, if you do end up with a leak or see something leaking on a neighbors house, please notify them and you can call MOC directly to report it.

Here are some shots from the park this morning!

Houston is less than a day away from the onset of a winter storm that is likely to cripple transportation around the region. We’re still expecting primarily snow, with impacts on roadways through Wednesday morning. Also, we issue a rare sledding forecast.

Forest Oaks Update #1: Sunday, 1/19 @ 10 a.m.

As we expect some bad weather and freezing temps in the coming days, we are going to go ahead and start posting some updates for everyone.

Forest Oaks Swim and Racquet Club:
All facilities (except the pool) are open normal hours and will remain open until further notice. The clubhouse and fitness center do have a generator, so even in a power outage we will have power.

Warming/Charing Stations:
Should there be an extended power outage in the District, we will make announcements about warming and charging stations in the clubhouse and the maintenance building classroom. Our staff is on standby to open these spaces should we need them.

Forest Oaks Park:
At dark today (Sunday, 1/19), we are going to shut off water to our bathroom and water fountains in the park so we can avoid frozen or burst pipes. We are doing this proactively because if we don't and the pipes freeze or burst, they will be offline longer for repairs. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The bathroom and water fountains will be unavailable until Wednesday, 1/22 and we will turn them back on as soon as we can that day, weather permitting.

The park will remain open unless there is a potential for any hazards with a freeze, in which case we will close the park for assessment and mitigation or clean-up.

Water and Sewer:
MOC, our operator, has been hard at work prepping our plants and lift stations for the potential weather the past four days. They have staff ready to stay onsite should there be a need for it. Meaning MOC staff will be staying at the plants 24/7 to ensure everything is working properly. This is one of the reasons we are thankful MOC is our operator...they do what has to be done!

Should you get frozen or burst pipes, please look for the proper resources on how to deal with those issues. Make sure you know where your home main water valve is located and that it is accessible. Call a plumber for repairs.

If you see a leak on a neighbors house, please notify them ASAP. If you happen to be out and about and see a leak somewhere in the District, please feel free to call MOC and report it. MOC phone number is 281-367-5511. The Forest Oaks Admin Office will be closed on Monday, 1/20 for MLK Day so we will not be here to answer phones calls. You can email us at [email protected].

Trash and Recycling:
Best Trash has already announced that there could be delays or missed pick-ups through Wednesday due to weather, so we will keep everyone posted.

Freeze Updates on District Website:
We have also added a storm updates page to the District website. It is the blue section on the main page. We will continue to post updates in the coming days.

The cold weather is expected to be around a bit longer! As temperatures begin to drop late this weekend and into early next week, we strongly encourage everyone to prepare and take necessary winter weather precautions.

RESIDENTIAL WATER AND SEWER | wcid110 01/16/2025

Ok everyone, we've been watching the forecasts for this weekend and early next week and looks like we should expect some freezing temps. Regardless of snow or no snow, it will be colder then we have seen so far and we should expect some time below freezing. That means you need to be preparing your house now and not waiting until it's too late.

We've added a lot of info on our Residential Water and Sewer page for the following info:
1. EYEONWATER app and setting up leak alerts...DO THIS NOW!
2. The STEAR Program from the State of Texas Emergency Services.
3. Residential water diagram with info on how to shut off normal valves.
4. Tips for winterizing your home.
5. Debris Management for Residential Areas

None of this info is going to win awards for writing or graphics and there are unlimited resources available for you to find on your own.

Please take some time before Sunday and make sure you have everything you need in an emergency.
Make sure you know where your home shutoff valve is located.
Make sure you have a plumber's info and MOC contact information available in the event of a frozen or burst pipe (call plumber first, MOC is not a home plumbing repair company.)
Make sure if you have a pool you know how to winterize it for potential freezing temps.
Make sure you have checked your irrigation system and following instructions for freezing temps. Also plan to check your system after any potential freeze to make sure you don't have a leak somewhere.
Make sure you cover exterior spigots or pipes. Recommend wrapping in some sort of plastic then covering with foam or insulation tubing or blanket/towel. The plastic may help keep it from freezing underneath a wet surface. If you don't want to buy them or can't find Styrofoam spigot covers, a large Whataburger cup (or any other large Styrofoam cup) can be just as effective.

Not saying we should expect to lose power, but if we do, what is your plan?

We will continue to post information as needed during the coming days.
