I believe leadership requires making decisions based on what is best for the people of Wisconsin. What is best for the people of Wisconsin was getting relief today, not asking people to hope for relief next year. I am disappointed that the people of Wisconsin will suffer because politicians on both sides were unable to see this. This is politics at its worst.

Later this afternoon, I will vote in favor of a bipartisan agreement between legislative leadership and the Governor.

This agreement would provide more than $1 billion in relief for taxpayers hurting because of inflation. The bill would eliminate taxes on tips and overtime, increase aid for school districts to lower costs for property owners, and send $870 million directly back to Wisconsin taxpayers.

The package also builds on our work in the bipartisan state budget to provide the largest investment in special education ever, bringing the reimbursement rate to a historic 50% for the 2026-27 school year.

During today’s Joint Committee on Finance meeting, we approved $3.5 million allocated in the state budget to support Wisconsin EMS volunteers.

This funding will reimburse EMS volunteers for the cost of classes, helping remove one of the biggest barriers preventing people from entering EMS service.

I led the effort to create this program and secure funding for it in the state budget because our communities depend on strong volunteer EMS services.

The program is expected to launch in fall 2026 and will help reimburse up to 6,300 new EMS volunteers.
