First backpack western elk hunt is in the books. šļøš¦
7 days off-grid, living out of a backpack in Montanaās Missouri Breaks. We found elk, got close, heard bugles, sent a few back⦠just never quite got close enough for bow range.
No punched tag this time, but that didnāt take much away from the experience. Challenging, rewarding, humbling, and one hell of a way to unplug for a week.
Thereās something pretty damn good about carrying everything you need on your back, chasing elk through wild country, and forgetting about the rest of the world for a while.
Iāll be back. š¤
Custom low row footplate looking MEAN. š¦¾š„
Gloss black finish, clear grind badges showing off the raw work, and white protective liners to keep things clean where it counts.
Built to get used. Built to take abuse. And yeah⦠this thing RIPS. ā”ļø
3D printer + press brake = repeatable perfection š¤
Printed up some simple jigs to take the guesswork out of the setup. Now weāre hitting clean, consistent 90° bends over and over again.
Sometimes the best shop tools are the ones you make yourself. š„
THREE OF A KIND. š„
Another day, another custom Beyond Power Voltra mount⦠actually, make that three.
These are some of my favorite pieces to make. Building something custom that fits someoneās setup just right never gets old.
REPEATABLE CUTS. š§
Back on the CNC plasma cutting square tube ā but this time with a custom jig so every cut lands exactly the same.
Pulled the slats from one side of the water table so the jig could sit lower, which also kept the tube partially submerged and cool during the cut. Win-win.
These 3x3s are for some custom power rack crossmembers Iāve got in the works š
Iām Ryan. I run a family metal shop in Texas building home gym equipment. New build reel every morning. Follow along.
Getting the articulation right on these low row footplates calls for some seriously tight tolerances.
Every variable matters ā laser cutting, bending, drilling, tapping, fit-up, and managing distortion during welding. A little movement in one place can throw everything off somewhere else.
But when it all comes together and that articulation moves exactly how you pictured it⦠š¤
So damn satisfying.
