A 19 year old transgender University of Washington student, Juniper Blessing, was brutally murdered inside a laundry room at UW’s Nordheim Court student housing in Seattle on May 10. According to investigators, she suffered more than 40 stab wounds. After police released surveillance photos, the suspect later turned himself in and was booked into King County Jail on suspicion of murder.

The killing has devastated students, the LGBTQ+ community, and people across Washington state. Memorials have grown outside campus housing as many speak out about the fear and violence trans people continue to face nationwide.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and a motive has not yet been officially confirmed. But regardless, a young trans student lost her life in an act of horrific violence that should never have happened.

Juniper deserved safety. She deserved a future. Trans people deserve to live openly and safely without fear of harassment, hatred, or violence. We cannot become numb to stories like this.

Handguns could be mailed through the United States Postal Service for the first time in nearly 100 years if a proposed rule under the Trump administration takes effect.

In 1927, Congress passed a law barring the USPS from mailing concealable fi****ms unless they were from licensed dealers in an effort to curb crime. In January, the Department of Justice revisited the 1927 law, calling it unconstitutional and arguing that it violated the Second Amendment, and urged the postal service to change its regulations.

A missing hiker in Glacier National Park was found dead after a suspected bear attack, according to the National Park Service.

Officials say the body was discovered about 50 feet off the Mt. Brown Trail in a densely wooded area. The last fatal bear attack in Glacier happened nearly 30 years ago in 1998.

A tragic reminder that wildlife is not a tourist attraction and national parks are still true wilderness.
