I’ll never trust a vehicle without a tailpipe!!
John Stossel on TikTok If you drive an electric car 60,000 miles… you put more carbon into the air than a gas powered car. Only after 60,000 miles do you use less. 😂

Another interesting switching move from this weekend, our veteran AEFR 5 pulled out North Shore 756 and CTA L car 4288. The cars are be rearranged for best access during the colder months. Painting has recently started on 4288, we can't wait to be able to pair it up with 4451!

Reminder!
Good Morning Kane County! School has started and we want to remind driver's of the School Bus Law. Let's all get to our destination safely.

Heads up: The South Elgin High School Homecoming Parade takes place Thursday, September 30 at 5pm. Parade leaves the Village Hall parking lot, heads east on State Street and then north on South Elgin Blvd to the SEHS parking lot. If you're crossing the river during that time, we recommend the Stearns Road bridge or alternative to the north or south. Big game vs Streamwood High School the following night!

Coronavirus safety: Consumer Reports' tips to keep car clean from COVID-19 "Think about how many surfaces in your car get touched on an average trip: door handles inside and out, control k***s and buttons, the touchscreen, even your directional and wiper control stalks are touched virtually every time you drive your vehicle."
Monday March 23rd Tredup’s Body Shop will be open for customers who already have their vehicles scheduled for repairs.
When dropping off your vehicle for repair please call the shop (847-695-6300) to let us know your car is here. Then please drop the keys in the key drop on the front door.
If you have any other questions please feel free to email our call. We are here to help any way we can.
Stay healthy & be safe.

Here are handy recycling guidelines. Tape it to the Recycling bin, magnet it to the fridge, hang it in the garage, wallpaper the baby's room...you get the idea.
PS - this chart doesn't include clothing/textiles. They're a big NO when it comes to the recycling bin, and a big YES when it comes to donating them. 🙂

FYI South Elgin-
The Polar Vortex has ushered in many inconveniences. Among them...Groot Industries has informed the Village of another change to the trash/recycling pick up schedule for this week. Due to extreme weather conditions and OSHA regulations, Groot employees will not be working Wednesday and Thursday this week (landfills will also be closed). This means Wednesday's scheduled pick-up will be delayed until next Wednesday (Feb 6) and Thursday's pick-up will remain delayed one day to Friday, Feb 1. For more information, contact Groot at (847) 429-7370.
Due to the extreme temperatures Wednesday, we are not writing any estimates. We will continue Thursday.

Be safe!
It's Tuesday...keep in mind when you take your vehicle in for repair. What may look like minor damage, even when there appears to be no visible damage to your vehicle.
Critical components could be affected. Beneath the plastic bumpers, covers, and shields lie many delicate components, essential to the safe operation of your vehicle. Only when the vehicle is torn down will they find these issues.
Tuesday’s TIP!
Original Manufacturer vs. Aftermarket Parts
Original manufacturer parts (OEM) are often higher quality than aftermarket parts. They are parts that were originally made for your vehicle and are patented by the manufacturer. Aftermarket parts may be compatible, but they are not the same as OEM parts.
The decision on which parts to use to repair your vehicle typically starts with your insurance carrier. If this is something you do not agree with its best to contact your insurance carrier directly and express your concern.
Tuesday’s TIP-🚘
This is a tip a lot of people don’t actually know.
You can choose the body shop
Insurance companies can refer you to shops that they work with, but ultimately you can choose who does the work. Most insurance-recommended body shops are reputable and perform high-quality repairs, but there are a few bad eggs out there that cut corners to get the job done faster and cheaper. These shops will entice insurance adjusters with lower repair costs, but that could result in a shoddy repair. Before agreeing to get your car fixed at an insurance-recommended shop, do some research online by searching Yelp or other sites with small business reviews.

This little gem of all the Tredup kids/grandkids
CIRA 1983

Last week we sailed the BVI islands of Tortola, Norman Island, Jost Van D**e, and little Jost.
While at Jost Van D**e we stopped at a bar called Foxy’s. While at Foxy’s we had the opportunity to not only meet Foxy himself but to also hang a Tredup’s liscense plate, which is something Foxy’s is also know for.
What a great time. Great food, great drinks and the bartender Darin was awesome too.
More snow is headed our way. I sure hope it doesn't disrupt Jeremy's vacation plans.

A lot of people don't know this but you do have a choice.
Do You Have to Use the Body Shop the Insurance Company Recommends? No, you don't have to use the body shop that the insurance company recommended. Yet the big question remains: Will you get a quality repair?

Finding the paintcode just got more difficult. Has this ever happened at your auto body shop?

How to Drive in a Flood
-Pay attention to barricades.
-Don't ignore them by driving past them.
-Do not drive through standing water on roads or in parking lots.
-The average automobile can be swept off the road in 12 inches of moving water, and roads covered by water are prone to collapse. Attempting to drive through water also may stall your engine, with the potential to cause irreparable damage if you try to restart the engine. If you come upon a flooded street, take an alternate route.
-Take extra precautions if you're forced to drive through water.
If no alternate route exists and you have no other reasonable alternative but to drive through standing water.
Do your best to estimate the depth of the water (if other cars are driving through, take note of how deep the water is).
Drive slowly and steadily through the water.
-Avoid driving in water that downed electrical or power lines have fallen in — electric current passes through water easily.
Watch for items traveling downstream — they can trap or crush you if you're in their path.
-If you have driven through water up to the wheel rims or higher, test your brakes on a clear patch of road at low speed. If they are wet and not stopping the vehicle as they should, dry them by pressing gently on the brake pedal with your left foot while maintaining speed with your right foot.
-Stay off the telephone unless you must report severe injuries.
If your vehicle stalls in the deep water, you may need to restart the engine to make it to safety. Keep in mind that restarting may cause irreparable damage to the engine.
-If you can't restart your vehicle and you become trapped in rising water, immediately abandon it for higher ground. Try to open the door or roll down the window to get out of the vehicle. If you are unable to get out safely, call 911 or get the attention of a passerby or someone standing on higher ground so that they may call for help.
Be safe everyone
