General information

Reiki (ray-key): Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Discovered by Mikao Usui in March 1922. It is administered by "laying on hands". The word Reiki comes the Japanese kanji. Kanji is ideograms used in the written language of Japan. Originally cam from China and based on simple drawings. They have changed over time to more abstract. The word Reiki is represented by two kanji, Rei and Ki.

Rei- Spiritual Wisdom
Meaning of Rei is universal and is the definition many have used. Can be interpreted as universal, meaning is present everywhere and a deeper understanding of kanji. Is more meaningful in describing the healing art of Reiki.

Ki- Life Energy
"Ki" means the same as Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit and Ti or Ki in Hawaiian. Science calls it biofield energy. Has been given many other names by various cultures. Ki also known as the vital life force or universal life energy. The non-physical energy that animates all living things.
