The South Boston #LionsClub and 42 other #LionsClubs in central and southern Virginia have formed The Virginia Lions District 24-B Mobile Health Unit Committee, Inc. The mission of this organization is to provide free vision and hearing screenings to children and adults in our region.

Why do we need a Mobile Health Unit?
•25% of children have some type of vision problem
•Some eye disorders, if left untreated can cause loss of vision in the effected eye
•Eye charts that are typically used in schools and doctor's offices are best for detecting near-sightedness. They often fail to detect other eye disorders.
•70% of juvenile delinquents have an undiagnosed vision problem
•Undiagnosed vision problems cause children to have trouble learning to read, they subsequently fall behind in school and this often leads to behavioral problems and even criminal activity.
•Central and Southern Virginia have a high rate of uninsured people, poverty and unemployment. Therefore families are less likely to visit eye doctors than families in other regions.
•There are currently 4 mobile health units operated by Lions Clubs in Virginia. These vehicles are on the road approximately 200 days per year and they screen over 30,000 people annually!

What does it cost to get this vehicle on the road?
•The total cost of a brand new fully customized bus with all of the vision and hearing testing equipment is $120,000.
•Our organization has raised $15,000 so far and our goal for this campaign is $15,000.
•Once we reach our goal, we will be apply to get matching grants from the Lions of Virginia Foundation, the Lions Clubs International Foundation and other foundations.
•Therefore the money that you give is really being matched twice, effectively tripling your donation.
•The Virginia Lions District 24-B Mobile Health Unit Committee, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and all donations to our organization are tax-deductible.

Please join me in supporting this very worthwhile cause!
