Cactus. My husband wanted a cactus. I really liked the pink in the reference so I went for it. Pink gold and green, what a dream combo 🌈

Sometimes I don’t feel like painting a whole scene. When we were at Foxen Winery the bright yellow of their umbrellas really caught my eye.

Irises. Gosh this was fun! I love this style with a little bit of playful splashes and some fine detail lines.

This is from “Watercolor your Way” by Highly recommend this book. She covers A LOT of ground from beginner to advanced.

Lately, inspiration has been hard to come by. I usually conquer this issue by following a tutorial. This succulent is from book “Watercolor Your Way”. I have amassed quite a few books on watercolor at this point and this one is my absolute favorite. The lessons are effortless and well explained and the subjects turn out great every time.

Here is part three of my “playgrounds and around Solvang” spread in my sketchbook. I just painted what I saw that day essentially. The goats were eating the grass in the park behind the playground that day so that’s why it needed a goat here. They use goats a lot around here to landscape the harder to access areas especially in parks and public areas. We’re entering fire season so let’s have those goats eat all the kindling!

I realize I forget to post my art a lot. It’s something fun to make and then I close the sketchbook and forget about it. Ah well! How have you all been? Tell me what’s new with you!

Shown here is the playground my daughter and I go to a lot. It’s not a terrible subject to draw and paint - lots of angles. Helps me learn 😊

Cactus! When the entire scene feels too overwhelming to paint, I started just painting elements. Like this cactus đŸŒ”

Oh hey hi 👋 I’m still here. Life has been kicking butt and taking names so just jugging along. Here are some peppercorns. From a pepper tree. Because my husband loves pepper trees. Also, they are everywhere around here.

I truly love sketching. Doing a rough sketch, putting some color down, seeing it come together just absolutely amazes me đŸ€©

This is at the playground and I heavily simplified because there is a lot going on.

This was such a fun exercise. I am practicing perspective drawing but without having to learn all the rules 😅 Perspective rules can get overwhelming and very technical. I have high level understanding and frankly, I studied 3D computer graphics. But I find it holds me back when I want to be creative - I get too technical. So I started looking into alternative methods. This is done with the help of a grid and it’s working like a charm. There are still errors, the left side of our house is technically a little longer than it appears here, but overall the perspective is correct. Also love the cartoony/sketched look of the background and want to explore that style more. All the things I wanna try haha
