Memorial Day.
Today isn’t about the sales, the long weekend, or the first backyard BBQ of summer.
It’s about remembering the men and women who gave everything for this country — and honoring the families who carry that sacrifice every single day.
At Chasing Your Health, we talk a lot about Whole Health. Freedom, community, purpose, family, and service are all part of that picture too.
So today, take a moment to slow down.
Be grateful.
Be present.
And remember those who never made it home. 🇺🇸

Happy Mother’s Day to the women who somehow do it all.
The planners.
The comforters.
The snack makers.
The glue holding everything together.
At Chasing Your Health, we celebrate moms every day… but today, we hope you have an extra special day filled with love, laughter, rest (if that’s even possible 😅), and time with the people who matter most.
Thank you for everything you do — seen and unseen. 💚

🚨 Apparently Teacher Appreciation Week was this week… and judging by the timing of this post, I clearly would’ve been the student asking:
“Wait… that was due TODAY?” 😅
But seriously — shoutout to the teachers out there doing one of the hardest jobs on the planet while surviving emails, grading, chaos, glitter, group projects, and kids suddenly remembering assignments at 11:58 PM.
You teach. You coach. You encourage. You parent half the day.
And somehow you still show up again the next morning.
From Chasing Your Health — we appreciate you. 🍎☕📚
(And yes… this post is late. Consider it extra credit.)

Happy Nurses Week to the people who somehow hold healthcare together with caffeine, teamwork, and pure willpower.
From the bedside…
to the clinic…
to the late-night charting…
to catching the things everyone else missed…
Nurses are often the heartbeat of healthcare.
As a dietitian, I can tell you this directly:
The best patient outcomes happen when nurses are involved, engaged, and advocating for their patients.
You educate.
You comfort.
You problem solve.
You multitask at an Olympic level.
And somehow still answer “just one quick question” 47 times a shift.
Healthcare would completely fall apart without you.

⚡ POTASSIUM AWARENESS DAY 5.1 🍌
We used to fear food. Now we follow labs.
There was a time in kidney nutrition where we said:
❌ No bananas
❌ No potatoes
❌ No tomatoes
Basically… no “healthy” foods.
And honestly?
We got that wrong.
⸻
🔬 What changed
👉 Not everyone with CKD has high potassium
👉 Over-restricting hurts overall health
👉 Food quality still matters
So we shifted.
⸻
📊 The modern approach
✔️ Follow labs
✔️ Watch trends
✔️ Adjust as needed
Not blanket restrictions.
⸻
💊 Don’t forget meds
Sometimes it’s not the food.
ACE inhibitors, ARBs, potassium-sparing diuretics → can raise potassium.
👉 Look at the full picture.
⸻
🧩 Bottom line
Food isn’t the enemy. It’s the foundation.

It’s Thursday night.
You’re done with the week… but not done working.
So now you’re just… scrolling.
Cool. Same.
Here’s something useful:
Sardines are having a glow up.
👉 Go read before you waste another 20 minutes.

🌎 Happy Earth Day !!
You don’t need to “go extreme” to help the planet.
Start small. Do it consistently.
Because the same habits that protect the Earth…
also protect your food system—and your health.
Here’s what actually matters:
🥦 Eat more plants (even just a little more)
Supports soil health, reduces strain on the food system, increases fiber intake → better gut health, heart health, longevity.
🚶♂️ Walk more. Drive less (when you can)
Less pollution → better air quality.
More movement → better metabolic health.
🛒 Buy food you’ll actually eat
Food waste = wasted water, energy, and resources.
Also means you’re probably not planning your nutrition well.
💧 Drink water. Cut back on packaged drinks
Less plastic waste. Less added sugar.
Simple win.
🌱 Support local when possible
Shorter supply chains = fresher food + less environmental strain.
Bonus: often higher nutrient quality.
🥗 Stop chasing perfection
You don’t need organic everything.
You need consistency with better habits.
⸻
At the end of the day…
It’s not about being perfect for the planet.
It’s about building a lifestyle that supports both:
👉 Your health
👉 Your environment
Because they’re not separate.
⸻
Chase your health. Protect your environment.

You’re losing weight… but not all of it is fat.
Medications like Wegovy and Mounjaro are changing weight loss.
But here’s what most people don’t realize:
👉 A meaningful portion of weight loss can come from lean mass (which includes muscle)
And if you’re:
• Not eating enough protein
• Not strength training
👉 That number can work against you
💥 It’s not just about losing weight—it’s about keeping what matters
👇 Full breakdown in the blog (link in comments)

You’re losing weight…
But a meaningful portion might not be fat 👀
We talk a lot about GLP-1 medications like Zepbound and Wegovy…
But almost no one is talking about this part.
💥 And it matters more than you think

🌍 World Health Day — Chasing Your Health Take
Today we recognize World Health Organization World Health Day—a reminder that health isn’t just personal… it’s global.
And this year’s message hits home:
👉 “Together for health. Stand with science.”
Let’s translate that into real life (because that’s what we do here):
💥 Quick Reality Check
Health isn’t built on:
❌ TikTok trends
❌ Fear-based headlines
❌ “One magic fix” thinking
It’s built on:
✔ Evidence
✔ Consistency
✔ Collaboration (yes… even across countries and systems)
💥 The Bigger Picture
The world is finally leaning into something we’ve been saying for a while:
👉 Health is connected.
• Human health
• Food systems
• Environment
• Access to care
That’s the “One Health” approach—and it matters more than ever.
💥 Chasing Your Health Takeaway
If we’re going to “stand with science,” it starts with:
🥗 Eating real, balanced foods
🏃♂️ Moving your body consistently
😴 Managing stress & sleep (the underrated MVPs)
🧠 Filtering out noise and sticking to evidence
Because let’s be honest…
👉 It’s easier to blame carbs, seed oils, or one ingredient
👉 Than it is to build sustainable habits
But only one of those actually works.
💥 Bottom Line
Health isn’t about perfection.
It’s about patterns—over time, across systems, and together.
Let’s keep chasing real health, not headlines.
