A common call I receive sounds something like this:

"My parent is in a care facility and we need a document notarized. Can you help?"

The answer is often yes.

These appointments are about more than signatures. They help families move important decisions forward during challenging moments.

Mobile notarization brings convenience and peace of mind when it's needed most.

If you've ever helped a parent navigate important paperwork, you understand how valuable that can be.

Three situations where a mobile notary can save the day

1. A family member is in the hospital and cannot travel.
2. An elderly parent needs documents notarized at home.
3. Your work schedule makes traditional office appointments difficult.

A mobile notary comes to your location, making the process easier when convenience matters most.

Have you ever needed a notary outside of regular business hours?

What is one document you've been meaning to take care of but haven't yet?

A will?
A power of attorney?
Property paperwork?
Something else?

Most people don't put these tasks off because they don't care. Life simply gets busy.

The challenge is that many important documents become urgent at the worst possible time, during a hospital stay, family emergency, or unexpected life event.

As a mobile notary serving Kitsap County, I often meet clients who wish they had handled their paperwork sooner.

Share your answer in the comments. You might inspire someone else to finally move that task to the top of their list.

Estate planning isn't about death. It's about love.

It's about making sure the people you care about most are protected financially, legally, and emotionally when they need it most.

Wills. Trusts. Powers of attorney. Healthcare directives. And yes, sometimes apostilles for international documents.

As a mobile notary specializing in estate planning signings, I come to you at your home, an attorney's office, a care facility, wherever works best. I make the process calm, professional, and as easy as possible during what can be an overwhelming time.

If you or someone you love is working through estate planning documents, I'd be honored to help.

Let me paint a picture for you.

A family in Kitsap County is finalizing their estate plan. They've done everything right: met with their attorney, signed their wills and powers of attorney, got everything notarized.

Then they realize: they have a vacation property in Mexico. And their adult daughter lives in Germany.

Suddenly, those carefully prepared documents need to work internationally, and that means they need apostilles.

This is more common than you'd think. International families, overseas assets, or beneficiaries living abroad can all make apostilles a necessary part of the estate planning process.

As a mobile notary and apostille facilitator, I can help bridge that gap, handling the notarization and helping coordinate the apostille process so your family is protected no matter where life takes them.

Have questions about how to obtain an apostille? I'd love to help. Reach out anytime.

These two things are NOT the same, and confusing them can cause real problems with your documents.

🔹 NOTARIZATION verifies your identity and that you signed a document willingly. It's required for wills, powers of attorney, trust documents, and most legal paperwork here in Washington.

🔹 AN APOSTILLE is a government-issued certification that makes your notarized document legally valid in other countries. Think of it as the passport for your paperwork.

So if your estate planning documents only stay in the US? A notarization is what you need.

But if those documents ever need to cross international borders - whether for foreign property, overseas family, or international institutions - you'll likely need both.

Knowing the difference ahead of time can save you a lot of stress (and delays) later.

Did you know that some estate planning documents need more than a notarized signature to be valid abroad?

If you have property, bank accounts, or family members in another country, your documents may require something called an apostille - a special authentication that makes your notarized documents legally recognized in foreign countries.

Here's when an apostille might come up in estate planning:
✅ You own real estate in another country
✅ Your heirs or beneficiaries live outside the US
✅ You have financial accounts or assets in a foreign nation
✅ Your power of attorney needs to be used internationally

A notarization is the first step, but an apostille takes it further.

Not sure if your documents need one? Drop your questions in the comments or send me a message. I'm happy to help you figure out your next step.

A common misconception I run into:

"An apostille verifies that my document is accurate."

It doesn't, actually.

An apostille verifies the signature or seal of the official who signed the document, not the content itself. It tells another country: this document was legitimately issued. That's it.

It's an important distinction if you're sending legal documents abroad, because knowing what an apostille does (and doesn't do) helps you understand exactly what else you may need, like certified translations or additional authentication steps.

I cover this and the full process in a new guide on my blog - link in comments!

Free resource!

Getting a document apostilled in Washington State involves more steps than most people expect - and a rejection usually means starting over.

I created a free Apostille Prep Checklist so you know exactly what to have ready before you submit anything. It covers:

✔ How to identify your document type

✔ Confirming your destination country's requirements

✔ What the Secretary of State needs from you

✔ What to do after you submit
