His name is Mohamed Morris Kamara, popular on stage as Morris D Violator (sometimes dubbed as Wonder Boy or Ris,sengbeh pieh).
Morris is a Sierra Leonean recording artist, songwriter, dancer and an actor. He remains one of Sierra Leone's most prolific singers and performers. Morris was born in Koidu Town, Kono District - eastern Sierra Leone, on the 7th November , to a mother Fanta Sayoh Kamara (a housewife) and a father Sayoh Kamara (a tailor), all hailed from the Madingo ethnic group. He is the first born among six sibl
ings. Morris attended the Ansarul and Aradura Islamic Primary Schools in Koidu Town. In his primary school days, he used to compose and mime music with friends. He was also interested in sports, but his music hubby stood out among them. During Sierra Leone’s civil war, the family was forced to migrate to neighbouring Guinea where they settled as refugees. While attending a refugee school, Morris participated in many variety shows (talents exhibition, miming, drama, etc) which helped him built his music career. The family returned back home after the war in 2000 and completed his primary education at the Good Shepherd Primary School in Kissy Freetown. He was admitted at the Sierra Leone Muslim Congress to continue his secondary school education. He later continued his high school education at the St. Edwards Secondary School in Freetown. At age 15, Morris started his music career, but his studio work started in 2012 when he was signed by Visual Arts Media, owned by Mohamed Janneh, a prominent film director and entrepreneur. He became the label’s biggest act when he rose to prominence in 2013 with a debut studio song 'Violator', which was released as a single from his first album titled - 'Violator' (2013). The concept about the song was stemmed from the ‘Violator’ movie, which was later released after the song. The Violator album contains major hit songs like “You Ex", “Burning Desire”“You Wase", "Makura Baby", “Forgive and Forget". he got his breakthrough with that album - with many tours across Sierra Leone, also received about six awards for that album. The album was a fusion of R&B, Dancehall, Hip Hop and Lovers Rock. It was produced by his long time friend Wilbert Wisdom of Wilbert Music, who is one of Sierra Leone's youngest, renowned and talented producers. Morris' masterclass and artistry in music has earned him several recognitions/awards, making him a multi award winning music personality. The successes of his Violator album in 2013 earned him the SLEDU's National Music Awards as Best New Artist, grabbing two of LAKE Production's National Music Awards as Best New Artist and Best RnB Artist awards respectively, a MADRUGA FBC Best Male Artist of the Year award, two SLCAF Awards (Fastest Growing Artist and Artist of the Year). Morris was inspired and mentored by one of Sierra Leone's finest singers, K Man the Bingo Man. He skilfully copied K Man's style of singing and he was sometimes mistaken for K Man in most of his songs, especially the song - 'You Ex'. He also admires the Leone Stars most capped soccer legend and former Inter Milan's player - Mohamed Kallon, thereby calling himself as the Wonder Boy. In 2014, Morris visited the studios again to start recording his second album 'Man of the Year'. In early 2015, he released “Boogie Down" as the album's lead single. It became a big Dancehall hit across Sierra Leone and beyond and earned the artiste the Best Male Artist award at the Diaspora Focus Awards in 2015. Later that year, he released another single - 'E Nor Do Now?' from the 'Man of the Year's' album. The song featured the Queen of Sierra Leone's hip hop /rap music Star Zee, the lead act of the DOZ KABAAL. The song -"E Nor Do Now?' became a trending slang in Sierra Leone. In addition to his solo work, Morris has collaborated with several artists and was featured on hits like “Murderer" with Yok 7, “Mortal Man” Kao Denero, “mortal man" with kao denero, “4 dis baby”with kcee , “Ghetto gospel” with Bernard, “your body” with Tazzy B, “Mammy Water" with Cool J, etc. Morris was also a recipient of the 2017 National Entertainment Awards (NEA) as Best Afro Artist of the Year and Best Music Video for the song - 'Happy', after securing the highest nominations (4) in the NEA 2017 awards. He is one of the most prominent Sierra Leone celebrities on social media. He well built physique and flamboyant looks present him as a big time model. In November 2017, Morris was among few artistes who performed at the Salone Music Festival in the United States, organised by the All Stars Artists Union. He put up brilliant performances in all the shows he was featured. He shot several videos in the US for songs like 'Ejoh’, “Skank It” and others. In April 2018, Morris shared a stage in Beijing, China with Nigerias foremost music icon, 2Face Idibia. After the performance, 2Face joined Morris on stage to cheer him up. He was quite impressed with his performance. Months later, Morris released the video of his hit single” Ejoh”.which earned him NEA best indigenous song of the year . Morris has earned a lot of success stories in his music career over a very short period. He is the fastest growing Sierra Leonean artiste with couple of hit songs. In 2019 he was named as one of the 100 most influential youths in Sierra Leone .He is a brand ambassador for Sierra Leone’s biggest tele communication company “AFRICELL”. He is the most awarded young Sierra Leonean artist with over 15 major awards. He is the first Sierra Leonean artist to tour Asia and shared a stage with Nigerias top singer, 2Face Idibia. Morris is among the first Africans to lead a campaign for the absconded by Book Haram in Nigeria by releasing a song titled ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ and he is the first Sierra Leonean artist to do a self-sponsored sensitisation song for the Ebola virus in 2014. Morris’ “Happy” video topped the chart on a National TV as Best Music Video for 13 weeks.currently (2020) Morris has the most trending song “Denge n Pose”in the country(Sierra Leone).the song took first place in February 2020’ Salone top 10 song’s monthly music charts published by vertex media. Denge n pose is gradually growing in west Africa as it being featured on many playlist across Africa ..
