Thank you Sierra Vista Parents' Coalition for your partnership with us, allowing our bags bags to reach kids in need at Palominas School District.

Our volunteer drivers are back at it! We delivered 50 weekend food bags to Palominas Schools from our partner Peach's Pantry, Inc. That's 50 kids who won't come back to school hungry next week. Why do we do it? Because we know hungry children are less likely to perform well in school and more likely to have behavior problems. We're addressing the needs our children and parents have that affect student success.

Thanks to the Palominas Schools Transportation team for helping us unload all of those bags. It's school and community partnerships for the win! Want to join our team of volunteers? Send us a message! We'd love to have you!

We are so grateful to work with school nurses and other personnel to ensure children in need are not going without food. In most of our 18 partner schools, they are our main point of contact. They keep us informed of each family's needs so we can pack their food bags accordingly. Whether there is a food allergy or a family is displaced and without a kitchen so they need meals ready to eat, the nurses know their students and what the needs are.

Since our founding, we have felt extraordinarily supported and championed by the nurses in our partner schools and we have gotten to have an up close view at how much love they have for the students they care for.

Being a nurse is a selfless, caring, giving profession and we have been inspired by the nurses we work with. They not only have bandaids on hand for playground mishaps, they manage chronic illnesses, complex medicinal schedules, and food allergies across hundreds of students. During the pandemic, their workload has increased tremendously as they have become daily health checkers and contact tracers for the entire student population as well as other tasks managing COVID on school campus.

In addition to being outstanding medical professionals, school nurses often have extra shoes and clothes in a closet for students, pay attention to when students aren't feeling quite right, and notice when someone is coming to school hungry. We couldn't do our job without them.

Today and everyday, we salute nurses, but especially the nurses in our schools. THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts.

With Love,
The Volunteers at Peach's Pantry

Important information to share for 2021.

The Cochise County Housing Authority is announcing the opening of the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) waitlist. The Housing Authority will accept pre-applications for housing vouchers January 19 through February 2, 2021. All pre-applicants received during this time will be placed on the waitlist for vouchers.

The Section 8 tenant-based HCV assistance program is funded by the federal government and administered by the Housing Authority of Cochise County.

According to Housing Executive Director Anita Baca, placement on the waitlist is the first step for individuals seeking section 8 housing assistance. Also, the waitlist does not open often. “Our waitlist has not opened since April 2018. At that time, we received over 500 pre-applicants, and we have been working through that wait list. Now, we are ready to accept new applicants.”

Baca further encourages anyone interested to complete the application early. “An applicant’s placement on the wait list is determined by the date and time of the application, as well as other Housing Authority local preferences.”

Applicants already on waiting lists for other housing programs must apply separately for this program. Applicants will not lose their place on other waiting lists when they apply for Section 8.

A fillable application with instructions and a complete list of screening preferences will be available at https://www.cochise.az.gov/housing-authority/home. Users should click on “Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Wait List Pre-application.”

Due to Covid-19 precautions, walk in appointments will not be accepted. For assistance with the application, please call 520-432-8880. Press any prompt to schedule an appointment

Holy zucchini! Thanks to Sara Young, who shared some of her garden's abundance with our families and Tiffany George who has been sharing farm fresh eggs!

Our home delivery program was born out of the need to feed families during this pandemic who had transportation challenges, but it has also provided an avenue to share shelf stable home grown produce and eggs with families in need as well! Thanks to the local gardeners and chicken keepers who have been sharing their abundance with our families! 🐓🥒🥬🍅🍳 #DonorLove #PropsfromPeach
