Strings Orchestra Upon realizing the lack of a strings program in the schools of Sierra Vista and surrounding communities, the Cochise County Youth Orchestra was launched in January of 2002 with an initial enrollment of six students.
The “strings only” ensemble is currently comprised of violins, violas, cellos, and string bass. Over the years the orchestra has been growing in size, as well evolving and expanding its style to include a wide variety of music, including classical, old-time fiddle, western swing, jazz, Celtic and modern day popular songs. Orchestra members enjoy the variety and learn different techniques with each musical style.
Operating as usual

Good news -- The Cochise County Youth Orchestra will continue instruction this fall! 🎻
Because of the pandemic, we won't be able to teach a Beginner Orchestra this semester, but all youth (K-12) with previous experience in strings (violin, viola, cello, and bass) and who would like to enroll in CCYO this year are encouraged to attend the Zoom Audition for Intermediate/Advanced Orchestra this upcoming Tuesday, August 25.
Classes this fall will take place online, and as the situation might allow over the coming months, we anticipate that small groups of students will be able to meet in sectionals, following all current safety guidelines for the prevention of the spread of the coronavirus (masks, distancing, sanitizing).
Due to the continued Covid-19 pandemic, CCYO will not be having a Summer Strings summer camp this summer, and the General Membership Meeting scheduled for June 17th has been canceled. We are still awaiting word on whether or not there will be a Back-to-School Fair this year (scheduled July 11). If the schools return to a normal schedule this fall, then the CCYO Fall 2020 semester will start on Tuesday, August 18. Enjoy the summer, and stay tuned for further details. :-)
Currently all AZ schools are closed through the Spring Holiday (Apr 10-13), and the Youth Orchestra will continue its pause while school is out. The next scheduled class would tentatively be Tuesday, April 14, but this remains subject to last-minute change. Stay tuned, and stay healthy...and don't forget to practice. 🙂🎻
With all Arizona schools currently closed until March 27, CCYO students are also on extended Spring Break -- Classes/rehearsals are suspended until Tuesday, Mar 31. 🙂
With concern for the health and safety of our participants and supporters, as well as doing what we can to help slow down the spread of the coronavirus by minimizing large gatherings during this time, the Cochise County Youth Orchestra has decided to cancel our upcoming March 26 "Medley of Melodies" Benefit Concert and Raffle Fundraiser. For those who've already made gift baskets for the raffle, hang on to them, as we may move the Raffle to the Spring Concert at the end of the semester - stay tuned.
At this time all CCYO classes/rehearsals and upcoming performances will continue as normal, and we will notify students and parents of any change. Hope to see you at our Spring Concert on May 6!
And....just in case you were wondering why there aren't any dogs in CCYO. 🤣
Don't forget to mark your calendars - Thursday, March 26 is the CCYO Fundraising Benefit Concert!
The Cochise County Youth Orchestra invites all young strings players (violin, viola, cello, and bass) to join the fun in CCYO's upcoming Spring Term! There is a Beginner Orchestra for those who've never picked up an instrument before, as well as Intermediate and Advanced Orchestras for those young students who have a little (or a lot) of experience. Tomorrow night -- Come out and support the students at their free concert for the community! ❤️🎻🎵
Fall Break is now over, and the students are now looking towards their upcoming Winter Concert. Circumstances have precluded us from having a fundraising Yard Sale this year, but as a non-profit music school, we simply wouldn't be here without your generous financial support. Checks can be mailed to: CCYO, P.O. Box 391, Sierra Vista, AZ 85636. Thank you so much, and we look forward to seeing you at our free concert! ❤️🎻
