Our pleasure Jordan! God bless you

On 9/11/17, members of the Sierra Vista Police Department, sponsored by the Sierra Vista Police Officers’ Association, gathered with approximately 1,400 fellow first responders and military personnel to participate in the 9/11 Tower Challenge at Arizona Stadium. The team, spearheaded by Corporal Jordan Boltinghouse, has participated in the event since 2015. Each participant climbs 2,071 steps, equivalent to 110 floors; representing the World Trade Center. This year our officers wore their patrol uniform and tactical uniform, making it even more challenging. The event is in honor of all those who lost their lives on 9/11 and of our first responders and military who continue to protect us from foreign and domestic threats. The event raises money for the 100 Club of Arizona, and other non-profit military organizations, helping first responders and military personnel throughout the state. Corporal Boltinghouse was the recipient of assistance from the 100 Club of Arizona through their H.E.R.O.E.S. program back in 2014, after suffering from a tragic hiking accident in the Huachuca Mountains. Another Sierra Vista Police Officer received assistance from the 100 Club of Arizona back in February 2017, after being struck by a moving vehicle during a foot pursuit. The team raised $3,800 for the event this year. They were recognized for raising the most money as a team in 2016 and again in 2017. They were awarded their challenge coin from Congresswoman Martha McSally after completing the challenge. They would like to thank the following organizations and businesses that contributed to their success, including all private donors: Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #28, Faith Lutheran Church Safford, Fountain of Blessings, Citizens’ Police Academy Associates, Thatcher Middle School, World Dining and Rocky’s Pro Electric.

Dave was a special man, and an icon in the community. He will be truly missed. Our payer is for God's provision for Wendy and Colleen, as well as for friends and supporters of Greyhound adoption!

The obituary for my dad, David Breen, is below and will be in Sunday's and Wednesday's Sierra Vista Herald. A memorial service with military honors will be held on Friday, August 19th, at 2 PM at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery. We will have light refreshments after at the Widow's Support Center in front of the Buffalo Solider Gate at Fry Blvd. My mom, Wendy Breen, and I would like to also have a happy celebration of my dad's life on Saturday, August 20 in the Veterans Memorial Park. We think nothing would make my dad more happy than to have people and their dogs come together to remember all the good times. We are still working on the details for that and will provide another update later, but if you and your (well behaved) dogs would like to join us, we would be glad to see you. Please feel free to share this post, copy this information and send it to anyone who you think may not see this information otherwise.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
MAJ (Ret) David Breen, 64, of Sierra Vista, AZ passed away in his home on August 5, 2016.

He was born July 21, 1952, in Milwaukee, WI to Walter and Patricia (Morgan) Breen. He graduated from Brown Deer High School and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a BS degree in Public Administration. He completed ROTC at Platteville and was commissioned at Fort Riley, KS. He met his future wife in college and they were married in May 1974. Dave later received a Masters degree from Boston University while on active duty.

Dave served in the Signal Corps for 20 years. His family lived in Augusta, GA; Lawton, OK; Tacoma, WA; Sierra Vista, AZ; Heilbronn and Nieder-Florstadt, Germany; and Landgraaf, the Netherlands. He loved leading his soldiers as a platoon leader and company commander. He finished his active duty at Fort Huachuca helping to plan the vision of the post-Gulf War Army.

Dave spent the last 22 years working for various military contractors as a project manager. One of his biggest projects was making sure Y2K didn’t shut the military down.

Dave was a lover of dogs all his life and accepted a challenge to help make a difference when he read of racing greyhounds being left to die in the desert near Phoenix. He helped a greyhound adoption group in Tucson find homes for retired racing greyhounds and eventually formed AZgreyhounds, Inc. in Sierra Vista. Homes were found in Cochise County for over 400 dogs. Dave was the first individual "Everyday Hero" in the PEDIGREE Paws to Recognize program in 2005 and was recognized at a black tie award ceremony in New York City.

Dave helped form the Thunder Mountain Trekkers, a volksmarch club; loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle for many years; and served on the Coronado Chapter, Military Officers of America Association board. He was also a judge for the YES Science Fair for several years.

Dave is survived by his wife, Nancy “Wendy” (Cooper) Breen of Sierra Vista, and his daughter, Colleen Breen, of Scottsdale, AZ. He is also survived by his brother, Weston Breen, of Walterboro, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 PM. A celebration of life will follow, please check AZgreyhound’s page for information.

Donations in Dave’s memory can be made to AZgreyhounds, www.azgreyhounds.com.
