Just back from Speedweek 2021. Small failures added up to big problems to solve in a limited time. We'll try again next year.

We waited in line for two days to finally get a run in yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately, that run uncovered too many issues to repair and get back in line to run again. We are home again after another long drive, but we'll be back next year!
Tomorrow is race day!

Any new projects for 2019?
This showed up today. A nice reminder in the off season.
First run yesterday went well until about halfway through mile 3. Lost another coil. Pretty sure it is due to a mis-application if parts, so it's solvable for next year.
145 and change in the first mile, though.
Out of parts and don't want to throw good money after bad, so we went home.
All in all, a great week. Met new people, saw cool cars and bikes, and the bike went the fastest yet for the team. Good enough for this year.
This morning, I bumped the rev limiter to 12500, ran the extra timing from yesterday afternoon, and went 140 and 142 over the two measured miles of the short course. The morning line took forever, but then everything died down.
I bumped the timing again, and started to get funny running. It seemed to get better if I gave it some accelerator pump, so I bumped the fuel. Same thing. Dropped the timing back to the fast run, same thing.
This is a familiar operating mode that eventually ends up with a totally toast coil. So I swapped the other one out with the second of the recent acquisition.
Wind came up, and we called it a day before it was official.
Today discovered the horizontal cylinder wasn't firing.
The advice for the coils was to ground them next to the plug, but that puts the ground on the horizontal right in the salt spray from the front wheel. That obviously was a bad idea in retrospect.
We moved the ground somewhere less salty, and then were back to intermittent issues on a slightly suspicious looking coil.
We went to see the mayor of Wendover, and acquired a couple of replacements... An hour or so later we had the broken coil out and replaced. Back out on the course, only to discover we had traveled too far down a rabbit hole chasing the errant spark.
Loaded up a previously "acceptable" tune and picked up the "run, tune, run" rhythm for a bit. Wind came up and they closed the courses for eventually the day.
Timeline Photos
Only got three runs in today. We were waiting in line for a fourth but somebody apparently had a yard sale on course 2, while concurrently somebody had a redneck moment at the bend, tying up all the ambulances and life flights.
The second run was terrible, but the last one was awesome. Must have gotten pretty close to good enough, because it surprised me by lighting up the tire pretty violently on the good salt, in first, a little wheelspin in second, and straight up to 130 about the first mile for an average run over mile 2 at 133. It was the super short rookie/tuning course, so we grabbed the time slip and headed for a longer course... But ran out of race day.
Back at it tomorrow!
Breezed through tech. Soon to be making our first pass.
2018 is looking up! We are camped at the bend as of an hour ago. Tomorrow we'll find some pit space and hit up tech inspection.

Okay, sprag gear issues sorted for now.

Unless someone has one we can pick up tomorrow morning, we are building a roll starter. This is the third sprag gear we've killed trying to tune bikes.
Open to suggestions...
Ducati 749R on alcohol. Hopefully, got the timing issues sorted, now for the rest of the problems.
And there we are!
Great to see more Ducati record breakers on the salt.
Bill just went 190mph on a 165mph record. Getting set up for a return run to get the record!

Getting ready for Bonneville at the end of the month.
Someday... we will race here, too.
The team is ready to go! Chief Engineer Mike Akatiff and Pilot Rocky Robinson are live from the salt flats at Salar De Uyuni - Bolivia, and the course is beautiful. Can't wait to get the Ack Attack on the salt, this thing is going to fly!

Well, life has intervened in the racing schedule. We will be unable to make any of the Bonneville events this year due to good things happening.
So it is entirely possibly that the interaction between the fuel tank and the fuel killed the fuel pump slowly, leading to at least part of our troubles. The fuel pump is locked up.
The plan is to build a new tank out of steel and apply a new fuel pump to the equation.
Man, it's quiet here. Must be time to scheme up some more LSR shenanigans...

We had a rewarding, but almost entirely frustrating week on the salt. Parts broke, replacements were late, much work was done for little reward.
No complete passes, but we did make four attempts. The bike wasn't really running until Tuesday evening... kind of a prerequisite to pass tech.
We'll take the lessons and apply them to next year.
Guy Martin is out testing. Looks good from internet land.
