Shreveport Symphony supporters, Music Director Michael Butterman and new Executive Director Morgan Walker just returned from an exciting trip to Cuba.

Michael conducted the Havana Chamber Orchestra in a concert featuring the Cuban premieres of two works by Aldo López-Gavilán—his Clarinet Concerto, with soloist Coqui Calzadilla García, and 90 Miles for Trumpet and Orchestra with soloist Mayquel González.

On January 13, the SSO and Windborne Music will rock the RiverView with The Music of Def Leppard featuring lead vocalist Justin Sargent.

Justin is a singer and actor who has starred on Broadway as “Peter Parker” in Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark (music by Bono and The Edge), “Drew” in the mega hit rock musical Rock of Ages, and was in the Original Broadway Cast of Bonnie and Clyde. He has toured the country singing everything from Queen to Andrew Lloyd Webber. His TV/film appearances include Jesus Christ Superstar: Live on NBC, Law & Order: SVU and more.

The Shreveport Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors is pleased to announce an exciting update regarding our leadership transition.

After an extensive national search, we are thrilled to introduce our new Executive Director, Morgan Walker, who will join us this Spring. Morgan currently serves as the General Manager of the Paducah Symphony Orchestra in Kentucky, a position she has held since 2016. With a degree in Arts Administration from the University of Kentucky and completion of the Orchestra Management program with the League of American Orchestras, Morgan brings a wealth of expertise in Arts Administration and Symphony Orchestra management.

This Saturday, the SSO will present composer Peter Boyer's Rhapsody in Red, White & Blue featuring pianist Jeffrey Biegel.

The "Rhapsody National Initiative" continues to expand its reach with performance commitments from 53 orchestras in 49 states, nearing the fulfillment of its 50-state goal. The Shreveport Symphony is the Louisiana participant in this initiative.

Biegel commissioned Boyer to compose a new work in celebration of the centennial of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue in 2024. The iconic Rhapsody in Blue is also on this weekend's SSO program.

From February 21-26, 2024, the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra is presenting a trip to Cuba, let by Neil Birnbaum and hosted by Michael Butterman and Aldo López-Gavilán.
