Where the Past and Present Collide

People were asking us how to book a ride on Amtrak so we put together screenshots of the process. It’s really easy. In the example, we used the dates of August 27th- August 29th but you can choose any dates. And we selected coach but you can select private room if you want. It will be more expensive though. We had an absolute blast!!

The train station in Dallas is
Eddie Bernice Johnson Union Station
400 S. Houston St
Dallas, Texas 75202

It’s 2 blocks from Dealey Plaza and the Sixth Floor Museum.

We took a Lyft to the hotel which cost around $9 + tip. We took Lyft rides both days to downtown to ride the streetcar. Those Lyft rides also cost around $9-$10. Totally worth not having to drive in that traffic!

Remembering a Legend: Eric Brock

Tomorrow we will be Masters of Ceremony for the “Celebrate Downtown Legacy” program at the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce. As we prepare for tomorrow’s event, we feel the need to stop and reflect on a man who has documented and saved so much of this area’s history. That man is the late Eric Brock. Eric was a man who had a deep love for this area’s history and without his efforts so much of our area’s history would have been lost forever.

We know without a doubt if it wasn’t for Eric Brock there wouldn’t be a Twin Blends. He is the man who we get all our inspiration from. His knowledge and love for the history of this town inspires us everyday to uncover as much lost history as we can.

If Eric was alive today he would be smack dab in the middle of this celebration. He easily would be the Master of Ceremonies at this event therefore it causes us to pause and appreciate the gravity of this honor. Our hope is that we can honor this title with the great respect it deserves.

At Twin Blends: Northwest Louisiana History Hunters we believe that to truly appreciate the present, you have to look through to the past!

Shreveport Centennial Celebrated 90 Years Ago!

This Tuesday July 1, 2025 will mark 90 years since Shreveport celebrated it's 100th Anniversary! That's right, on July 1 1935 all of Shreveport turned out to see the festivities! Included in the celebration was a recreation of the signing of the Caddo Indian Treaty performed by lineal descendants of the Caddo Indians (on the float in the first photo and posed near the Rex Hotel in the second photo) as well as descendants of early settlers! The event also included concerts, balls, parades and pageants!

You are invited to join us this Tuesday July 1st at 4:00pm at the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce – 400 Edwards Street in Downtown Shreveport to celebrate historic milestones for our city.
This special event commemorates three major historic milestones:

190 Years Since the Signing of the Caddo Treaty — recognized as the founding date of Shreveport.

40 Years Since the 1985 Sesquicentennial — the eleven-month celebration that united our community under Mayor John Hussey
Kickoff of the 10-Year Countdown to Shreveport’s Bicentennial in 2035.

We will gather to recognize these legacies with a Downtown Reception hosted by the Shreveport DDA! Twin Blends: Northwest Louisiana History Hunters will be the Masters of Ceremonies!

KSLA Goes on the Air for the first time Jan. 1, 1954!

Check out these amazing photos we found in The Shreveport Times collection at the Northwest Louisiana Archives at LSUS recently! It shows behind the scenes at KSLA News 12 as it was getting set to on go on the air in January of 1954! We love photos like this that shows us a glimpse at what technology looked like back then! We sure have come a long way since then!

Bossier Riverfront: 40 Years Ago!

With Chasing Aces Golf opening in Bossier we thought we would take a look back to 1985 and see just what that area looked like 40 years ago! Our buddy Thurman C. Smith took this incredible photo back then and boy has things changed!!!!
