Hunger impacts Asian American communities very differently. The term Asian American includes communities from many different countries. Every Asian American community has a unique experience in the United States.
An estimated 6% of Asian Americans are food insecure. That's 1 in 18 people who identify as Asian American. Harmful racial stereotypes cause many to overlook hunger among Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and it's important to remember food insecurity is about more than food. Our neighbors facing hunger tell us that the cost of living, housing, employment, health, and other factors—like the end of pandemic-era relief efforts—are among the top reasons why it’s increasingly difficult to afford and access the food they need to thrive.
