Today was eventful! We still have one more hog to put in the freezer 😬

We took a break from social media for a few reasons. But, we are back! Growth on the homestead is happening in more ways than 1 this year folks 😉 we can’t wait to share a big part of our journey this year!

This makes a mama’s heart happy! They are building a shelter and plan on camping there next weekend. They are going to keep working on it throughout the week and have it ready by Friday evening! Thankful for kids and a husband who LOVE the outdoors!

We highly recommend Brambles Bend Farms for all of your soap and lotion needs! They make amazing goat milk soap that we keep stocked in our house. Eczema, acne, dry skin, and bumpy patches are no longer a problem! Their soap also makes great shaving cream and shampoo😊

Many people have said to just let nature take its course. Only the strong survive. That’s just not my mind set. If it shows signs of life, I’m going to put forth the effort to save it. This little guy got in a bind and wasn’t making any progress so we stepped in to give him a little help. I’ve only done this 3 times and I’m still learning. But, he’s in the incubator now figuring out his legs!

Many think this lifestyle is cheap or that it is easy. I’m here to tell you, It’s not all sunshine and rainbows. This post sums it up perfectly! It’s a lot of work, takes a lot of time, and certainly isn’t cheap. So, why do we do this if it doesn’t help financially? We do this because we have a passion for the land, animals, and want to have a healthier food source. We want to be involved in the community, teaching the young and old what it means to raise your own food and be self reliant as much as possible.

When inquiring about animals please keep in mind not just how much WORK goes into them, how much TIME goes into them, but also how much MONEY It costs me to keep these things fed. This is not even a full weekly feed bill. I still have to go back tomorrow when I get paid and get a bag of goat feed ($15), a bag of layer pellets ($18), a bag of pine shavings ($7), a bag of game bird feed ($23), and don’t even get me started on hay. I go through everything shown and everything mentioned above per WEEK. And this is just feed. Not BOSS, oats, medicine, housing, grooming accessories or anything else. Some weeks I make a little, some weeks I barely break even, but Most weeks I lose. Some weeks I don’t even move ANYTHING. Is this a business, yes, but it’s not a successful business. If it was I would not be working a full time job. I wouldn’t be doing side jobs on my off days. It’s my hobby, my therapy, for my kids learning experience. Please don’t disrespect me by asking me to take less on a rabbit that I’m already asking lower than the competition on. It’s takes all I got just to keep my prices where they are.

We took a water tank cage, a piece of free plywood, some hutch wire, a couple wheels, and an old piece of tin and made a chicken tractor for the meat birds! Move it once a day and you have some happy chickens!

We had a special order for a stacked triple nesting box with a perch and we love how it turned out. The customer is very pleased with it too! This was made with wood found in a dumpster on a construction site, with permission to dig in the dumpster of course.

Hey y’all! We have started a page to expand our business! Eggs are flowing in and things are getting built. Chicks are hatching and rabbits are being born almost monthly! The garden is growing and will be producing a harvest before we know it. Feel free to share our page with your buddies! We will be having butchering classes very soon as well. Stay tuned!
