We need to speak up and call out the systematic attack on DEIB, the constitution, and the erosion of government infrastructure. This administration, is taking apart, DEIB and calling it racism towards white people. In doing so, it is undermining people of color, supporting racism, and defunding those policies that support community. How can we allow this administration to pay millions of dollars to terrorist who attacked Congress and threatened to murder politicians? How can we support an administration that ignores the law and avoids being held accountable for violating international law? We need to make sure that politicians are elected who will put the constitution first, put up guard rails against abuse, and stop the fiscal corruption by this president. Years from now, we will look back at this time and ask a serious question, why did we drop the ball when it came to this guy who made his intentions clear.

My heart hurts.
The murder of 19 children and two adult teachers at Robb Elementary school in Texas, is a reminder that we are held at the mercy of 50 Senators who refuse to discuss reasonable gun control measures. The politicians can posture and offer prayers all they want, but the violence and killing of innocents must stop.
As I read all the stories about what happened to these 4th graders, I was deeply upset like most of us who are tired and sick of the violence. I remembered the Oklahoma Murrah Federal Building bombing by two right wing terrorist. We lost 168 people including 19 children. 500 people were injured. President Clinton was pushing for gun legislation and the NRA officials fought him every step of the way with the support of Senators and Congress people.
After Sandy Hook, where 20 students and 6 adults were murdered, President Obama worked hard to again address gun violence and the Republicans stopped any significant discussion to address our national sickness. My heart hurts because in those little faces I saw my cousins, brothers and sisters and children. I feel absolutely powerless.
My heart hurts because we are such a broken nation that we can’t collectively work on problems that our killing us. Jesus said “ Deceit is in the heart of those who plan evil, but there is joy for those who advice peace.” Proverb 12:20.
Those who are comfortable with evil are winning. The deceit is creating division and hate is growing. My hear hurts because we collectively have allowed politicians to control the narrative, prevent real solutions and enact gun legislation that will create more guns and senseless deaths.

The mere presence of environmental justice communities does not tell the full story of the economic and public health challenges some of the most vulnerable Delta-area residents face.

To help describe what these populations are up against, recent studies use a “Distressed Communities Index” (DCI) to suggest the difficulties Delta EJ communities face.

• Distress scores are calculated, according to an Economic Innovation Group study, “based on a geography’s rank on each of the seven equally weighted variables.

• The ranks are then averaged and normalized to be equivalent to percentiles, resulting in distress scores between 0 and 100. The higher the distress score, the greater the distress.

• Among Delta region counties, Contra Costa County has the lowest distress score of 8.1, while San Joaquin County has the highest distress score at 58.5 (out of a possible 100).

• The study estimated that 43 percent of San Joaquin County’s population resides in distressed zip codes.

• The City of Stockton was ranked sixth nationally (and first state-wide) among the most distressed large cities with a distress score of 95.2; 70.2 percent of the city’s population lives in distressed zip codes.

• Four of Stockton’s zip codes had distress scores exceeding 90 (95202, 95203, 95205, and 95210), and three more had distress scores exceeding 80 (95204, 95206, and 95207).

• The zip code for French Camp, adjacent to Stockton, had a distress score of 95.4. (Appendix 2, p. 2, Distress Score Column.)

• Of the Delta cities measured in the study, Stockton had the highest distress score (95.2), while Sacramento had a distress score of 77.5. The study also included Antioch (distress score of 77.0) and Pittsburg (67.6).
