We get asked this question a lot, and while we don't do "therapy" specifically (we do experiential learning), we give our horses a choice as to their participation. Sometime a few of them are "in", sometimes all of them are "in" and sometimes they say, "not today". And what I have found is that, "not today" often means, "until they are more present with us". All of this involves deep listening and actually knowing how horses communicate. Not knowing the latter is when things can go horribly wrong for horse and human.

We are heartbroken today. Pepsi crossed over the rainbow bridge yesterday morning. While he was not "technically" one of our retirees, he was the soft landing for Montana when we lost Billy. They were inseparable - literally. They had the run of the place and were never more than a few feet apart. They would bicker like two old friends who had been together for years. Montana's passing was hard on Pepsi and although he seemed to come to term's with it, we could tell that the loss impacted him. He joined Montana and Billy yesterday.
