In 1964, the Soviet-led Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (Comecon) began full operation of its Druzhba (Friendship Pipeline). This pipeline provided oil from Soviet Russia to the whole of the Soviet Union and Peoples Democracies of Europe. The construction was a collaborative effort of all recipients and helped strengthen relations.
