Featured today: Horse's Branle (or Bransle)!
The "branle" in "Horse's Branle" is actually pronounced "brawl"--though it's a dance, not a fight! This catchy tune from the 16th century accompanies a flirtatious dance in which a line of men faces a line of ladies. The men show off by stomping their feet and the ladies "paw" a toe at the ground coquettishly. And then the partners change! Our music ensemble is a broken consort featuring recorders, lute, and viola da gamba.
