Our last post was about our new hashtag (SE) Academic Challenge , which this year tasks students with writing and presenting on an important future SE application ( https://www.isec.org/academic-challenge ) ..... but students looking for a practical engineering challenge may wish to also work on an entry to a future competition being organised by World Space Elevator Competitions (WSPEC) ( see www.wspec.org ).

STUDENTS : The 2026 Space Elevator Academic Challenge has started !

TOPIC : “Utilizing AI Technologies for a Space Elevator Mission for Planetary Defense”

The International Space Elevator Consortium (ISEC) and the National Space Society (NSS) are challenging high school and university students to explore how the system can enhance the safety of Earth by using AI technologies for Planetary Defense.

PRIZES : Winners will receive
- $2,000 USD for 1st place
- $1,000 USD for 2nd place
- $500 USD for 3rd place.

To enter :
- Submit an abstract by 15th October 2025. If accepted...
- Submit a full paper by 15th January 2026. If a finalist...
- Submit an audio/video presentation by 15th February 2026.
