Personal Best on display at Nelson-Atkins Museum

This post is a bit overdue, but I wanted to shout out for flying all the way from South Korea for a 2 hour soft opening of Personal Best at (and for bringing snacks, Korean skincare, acupuncture needles, a microcurrent machine, herbs and most importantly, one of my favorite people on this earthšŸ˜). My nervous system was pretty well haywire leading up to the opening- what sweet relief to have a friend who knows what you need before you do! (And one who makes it happen, when you can’t!) To say I felt loved and supported is an understatement- thank you, I so so love you, Ash. ā™’ļø šŸ½ļøšŸ‘ šŸ½ļøā™’ļø

Also huge appreciation to my parents, who flew out on their 49th wedding anniversary from Hawaii to be here. I feel so thankful and fortunate to have had the opportunity to share this night- what a gift.

I feel overwhelmed by the number of people who have shown extraordinary love and support (too many to mention) but please know I truly, deeply thank you. Even those of you I haven’t met who have sent messages online- it all means a lot.

I’m still working on my front porch rebuild and spending time in quiet reflection, but I can’t wait to try and pay all of this forward in my next body of work. Come January, I’m jumping down the rabbit hole again.

On the 10 o'clock news last night. Thank you KSHB for the feature.

Artists and athletes aren’t often associated with one another, but a new exhibition at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art hopes to challenge that.

ā€œWith Kansas City taking the center of the world stage for the World Cup this coming summer, we wanted to be sure that we could bring something special to the Nelson-Atkins,ā€ said Stephanie Fox Knappe, Nelson-Atkins curator.

Here I am standing with the amazing in front of her Arc de Triomphe, made of kiln fired glass and installed piece by piece at the . Hanging her piece took 2 weeks, and because of the scale, it was the first time she was able to see her work come together (and to know all her calculations were right).

My mom took this pic and didn’t capture the full piece do I guess you’ll have to go see it yourselves. (The whole exhibit is so much different in person and the Nelson is the best free museum in the country- I highly recommend you go!)I am so proud of this city. IYkYK. If you don’t believe me, come thru.

I can’t quite articulate the joy and emotion filling my heart after the soft opening of Personal Best at the Nelson-Atkins Museum last night…. I am so honored and proud of everyone involved.

Please join me tomorrow (Saturday, Oct 18) when the show will officially be open to the public. I will be in the gallery from 1-3 along with some of the other artists. Hope to see you there!

Scoot and I had the best night, checking out the Lidded Vessel Invitational - so much incredible work by 120+ amazing artists. It was too much to take in on opening night so we plan to go back. I highly recommend it if you’re in the area.

We also went to the PBR Outlaw Days show: a 10/10 experience. I am not a Christian or a cowboy but appreciated the unity when the entire arena said a prayer for all the riders protection. I also appreciated that, in spite of having regional divisions, everyone was cheering the skill of the riders, rather than where they were from or who they represented. I loved every second of it: the skill of the cowboy on the gorgeous American quarter horse who lassoed the bulls when they went rogue, the incredible situational awareness of the rodeo clowns, the different personalities and difficulty level of the bulls… I was completely awed. I’ve watched it on TV for many years but the experience of seeing it live was next level and I can’t wait to go a hundred more times.

Thinking about Lars today, on what would have been his 52nd birthday.

This pic is from his 35th when, miraculously, the ride operator at Disneyland let us ride Splash mountain 5x during the fireworks show while peaking on L*D. I like to think that wherever in infinite expansion Lars is now, it’s even better than this.

I am thinking about him and trying hard to grow into the version of myself he so passionately believed in. I definitely wouldn’t be here without his wisdom, love and help.

Little ol me, talking about my work on the news tonight. If there’s a way to link in IG stories I don’t know it but you can check it out at:

(I am not sure if you can copy paste from the caption so I will post the link in the comments also).

Upcoming exhibit at Nelson-Atkins highlights KC’s art and sports culture 09/24/2025

Oh my, I was on the news tonight. They forgot the e in my name (a longstanding media tradition) and got my pieces/timelines a bit confused but I’m pleased as punch for the feature and for the fact I was miraculously able to speak in coherent sentences.

Please come see my works at the Nelson, starting Oct 18 - Aug 9 of 2026.

Upcoming exhibit at Nelson-Atkins highlights KC’s art and sports culture This fall, the Nelson-Atkins Museum will open a new exhibit in honor of Kansas City’s world-famous arts and sports scene, as well as its role as a host site for the FIFA World Cup 26.

Baseball may seem like an abysmally boring sport to you, but that is likely because you don’t celebrate the deeply historical tradition of protecting your most precious men and children by carving protective helmets for them made of seasonal fruits. You never know when a rogue ball could come throttle your loved one into the next dimension and that’s why proactivity is so important.

I had a long, interesting talk with my mason today. He is a beautiful person and definitely a fellow artist. He is helping me restore my 1800’s witch castle in such a loving, detail oriented way. I never feel like I’m being too fussy, and I’m glad because this house is pure magic just waiting to be lovingly remembered. He said a lot of interesting things but the one that stayed with me today was, ā€œWhen work is your meditation, peace is your destination.ā€ I felt that so deeply and since I’m quoting him I should tell you his name is Early Brown Jr. šŸ’«
