Watson's Counter

Today we said goodbye to the namesake as he crossed that rainbow bridge to find rest.

He worked so hard to cook your food and roast your coffee. But most importantly he was my best friend for the last 15 years. Please send your love his way.

Almost 45lbs of coffee is being donated to and their Kids Market fundraiser happening on April 6th, from 10am to 3pm.

I have no idea what they'll price out at, hopefully $25/box because they get to keep every single penny from the sales. Y'all need coffee anyway, get some ACTUALLY GOOD coffee and help support local a Palestinian refugee families.

While you're there getting coffee, it's also a thrift shop pop up for kids clothes and goods. We'll be there so say hello!

Full transparency, we're getting audited by the Department of Agriculture so we have to pause all sales this month. If you're a subscriber I will reach out to you via email as well. Updates:

I'm transitioning roasting facilities as well as the website to better serve you subscribers as well as provide coffee inventory to order without the commitment. This roasting facility will also help me roast more consistently for the wholesale accounts and in turn will also bring us a new coffee (finally, I know)

Hope y'all are being good, fighting N***s, and returning relics to museums where they belong.

My new assistant is terrible at this job, but he's doing his best.

Today we have been officially banished from our brick & mortar space. It has been hectic trying to get things out, but the physical location is officially over. Wrapping that part up along with 2024 will be nice to close this chapter. Who needs the Kwik-E Mart?

Tomorrow is the end of an era, Watson's Counter but also Igor's Daily Mocha. The final day in his own words:

"The last Igor’s daily mocha at Watson’s. It is somewhere above 1500 at this point which is hard to believe.

I remember the soft launch opening of Watson’s and being excited at having a shop open around the corner from our house. Watson's has become in some sense part of our family. We have been going there for almost 6 years and as Watson’s grew so did our own family as well.

We will miss the friendships, biking to Watson’s on the weekends, and the delicious coffee. Thank you Watson’s for all these years and memories!"

We love you guys.

People keep asking me what's next. It really is just focusing on family. I'm going to miss so much of what this business has given me and the many many ways it has enriched my life.

I'm not going to miss is bagging coffee at 1am. Entrepreneurship is great, but it's a heavy load to carry. As the sole owner of Watson's Counter I have failed to fully bring into realization all the things that Watson's Counter was meant to be. Am I still happy with what it was? Absolutely. My only regret is not being able to go out on my own terms.

My wife and I literally finished This Is Us tonight and I think we finished it at just the right time. In the train William says, "You'll see that the end is not sad. It's just the start of the next incredibly beautiful thing."

This encapsulates exactly how I feel because it's bittersweet for sure, but I'm not sad. Although you can bet I cried like a little bitch when the show ended.

Enough sappy posts though. Onwards and upwards!

More throwbacks because I'm not taking pictures these days.

This was the first dollar we ever made and I actually still have it. We were training and prepping prior to being open when someone came through the door. She ordered a latte and and pulled out her card. I made it for her and just said, "Don't sweat it. We don't have a point of sale yet because we're not opening for a few more weeks." She then looked around and realized that things were still in cellophane, boxes, or yet to be constructed. "Oh my gosh! Let me give you cash!"

This was the only dollar she had and she insisted that we take it.

Throwback to the first competition we won back in 2019 on the heels of being open for a mere few months and being nominated for Eater's Best Daytime Destination. Or something like that.

One of the things I'm most proud of is how awesome this team has been over the years. When I was fired from my previous company I deliberately chose not to poach anyone from there. These two found out I was starting my own coffee company and they reached out to see if they could join. It might not sound like a big deal, but they entrusted to me their own financial security as well believing that I could provide them a great place to work.

They mean the world to me because without them Watson's would not be what it is today.
