Comittee In Solidarity with the People of El Salvador (CISPES) is an RSO at the University of Washington, affiliated with Seattle CISPES.
Providing outreach to Salvadoran students and Spanish practice for those interested in Latin American politics! The purpose of this organization is to provide an safe and inviting space for individuals in the University of Washington community to discuss and support efforts in El Salvador and throughout Central America that are working for social justice, human rights, and democracy. In order to prepare for our upcoming movie night and teach in, develop tabling materials and brainstorm what we should tell the world about the evil privatization efforts in El Salvador (via our blog), we're meeting in the resource center from 4:30 to 6:30 pm today.
Bring a friend and enjoy some food while learning about CISPES and El Salvador! Help us make a banner! Hang out and ask questions!

We talked a little bit about this at the weekly meeting today--Mayor Norman Quijano has thrashed the vendors' stands using cops in riot gear. This is not damage from a hurricane, folks--this is right-wing economics at work.

Hey all,
We are meeting tomorrow at 10:30 am in HUB 111A to discuss CISPES' work on campus--reaching out to student groups, unions, and more! We want to know how to support other solidarity groups, and we also want to let people know about the attacks on public sector unions in El Salvador.
Come by tomorrow morning to learn more--there are plenty of ways to get involved. If you can't make it for whatever reason just let us know and we can set up a time that works!

The death toll of last week’s massacre of Maya K’iche protesters in Totonicapán continues to increase, with reports of up to 8 or 9 killed; at least 6 of the 34 people injured in the attack remain hospitalized. Initial evidence, as well as eye-witness testimony, confirms the denunciation of the 48 communities of Totonicapán that military and police forces fired on the unarmed protesters.
