Festival Flashback Friday 🎶
A moment from the 2005 Earshot Jazz Festival's “Legends of Seattle Jazz” celebration, featuring Floyd Standifer.
The concert brought together some of Seattle's jazz greats, including Buddy Catlett, Overton Berry, Woody Woodhouse, Clarence Acox, and Standifer, for an evening honoring the musicians who helped shape the city's rich jazz history. 🎷
A performer, educator, and community leader, Standifer was one of many influential Black artists whose contributions helped shape the sound and spirit of jazz across generations in Seattle.
As we recognize Juneteenth, we reflect on the generations of Black artists who have shaped jazz in Seattle and beyond. Their work is part of the enduring legacy of jazz as a vital Black American art form.

Trumpeter Jared Hall shines on “Hometown”, his third bandleading release on Seattle’s Origin Records. The Spokane-born musician, educator, and Whitworth University jazz studies director delivers a polished album that balances contemporary jazz craftsmanship with deep soul and swing. 🎺
Backed by pianist Ben Markley, bassist Michael Glynn, drummer Kyle Swan, and saxophonist Troy Roberts, Hall leads a classic contemporary jazz album — from the toe-tapping momentum of the title track to the deep-pocketed swing of “Echoes and Origins” and the ferocious climax of “Room 111.”
