Offbeat Wed
Offbeat Wed is an industry platform for wedding and event vendors who care about inclusivity. (Yeah, we used to be Offbeat Bride.)
Offbeat Wed celebrates folks daring to walk off the beaten aisle, and the wedding pros quietly making that nontraditional magic happen. Published by Offbeat Bride author and small business consultant, Ariel Meadow Stallings.

Are you dealing with overly controlling parents?
I spoke to a journalist who wants to interview couples whose parents or in-laws have offered to pay for some of the wedding but in exchange, are being VERY insistent on getting their way. (For example, a mother-in-law insisting on inviting her entire friend group or a father pushing a fancy venue that doesnโt suit your low-key tastes.) She said "Obviously all anecdotes can stay anonymous!"

Dirt on the hem, Scotch in the flask, and a 10-year-old promise kept on the edge of a volcano!! ๐๐ฅ Cindy and Jay skipped the wedding performance and opted for pure, understated partnership... complete with a bride in North Face boots and a canoe canoodle. This AAPI Heritage Month, we are screaming from the rooftops (and the crater rims) for couples who do it entirely their own way.

Wedding vendors spend so much time talking about how well they see their clients... but when was the last time YOU felt truly seen?
The 1:1 consulting sessions I do with Offbeat Wed vendor members are designed for exactly that. I review your website and messaging, tell you what your brand is currently communicating (not just what you meant to say, but what a stranger actually reads), and we figure out together what to sharpen.
Every new and renewing vendor membership includes a free session. Lemme know if you've got questions, or DM me if you want in.

Vendors: is 2026 feeling slow? Is it the pandemic engagement gap? Polycrisis? Existential dread?? As someone who's been in the wedding industry for 20 years I've got theories, but I want to hear yours.

David's Bridal is the wedding industry's deadbeat ex who just got an MFA in machine learning.
This is a $50 vintage gown that the bride "dresscued" for her wedding day. David's Bridal blamed brides exactly like this (couples opting for "less traditional wedding attire, including thrift wedding dresses") for the company's collapse in its 2023 bankruptcy filing. ๐ค (Keep in mind, that was their SECOND TIME declaring bankruptcy.)
Now, two years and one fire-sale bankruptcy buyout later, David's Bridal has rebranded itself as a "tech-powered multihyphenate" with an AI-powered wedding planning platform. The pitch? It will match brides like this with independent vendors, who pay David's Bridal for the privilege... Keep in mind, this is the same company that left independent seamstresses unpaid for thousands of dollars in completed work in 2023!!
And now they want to be your indie vendor's new AI-supported lead-gen platform in 2026!?? Wrote about why this is some bu****it on the blog today. ๐คฌ I don't normally rant like this, but this is some piping hot vendor tea!

Friends, I have receipts. David's Bridal (yes, the one that has filed for bankruptcy TWICE since 2018, laid off 9,000+ workers, voided customers' gift cards, and left independent seamstresses unpaid for thousands of dollars in completed work) has just announced it's pivoting to AI.
They want to be your wedding planner. They want indie vendors to pay them for "AI-matched leads." After everything they've done to couples AND small businesses in this industry!?
I wrote about why this won't work, and why the wedding industry's actual immune system has always been independent vendors and the couples who hire them.

Can you guess what year this wedding happened? Sometimes it's easy to forget that we've been doing our thang for almost 20 years, and then I'm doing some work in the archives and I stumble across these two cuties and just so dang ADORABLE.
