Friends, I ask for your prayers as we grieve the loss of K9 Officer Jedi. More information will follow. One of the hardest calls I have had in my 8 years serving as Chaplain.

As I enjoy the quite of the morning, I’ve been reflecting on the last three weeks in my role as Chaplain for the Seattle Police Department. It began with me officiating a wedding, three days later I was asked to ring the door bell of Lexi’s parents as we informed them of her death (a time that I will always remember), then I was honored to officiate a memorial for a 92 year old retired Seattle police officer, I recorded a sermon for a small church in Mountlake Terrace, we then held the funeral for SPD Officer Lexi Harris, and yesterday I officiated a beautiful wedding. These are life’s sacred moments and I’m honored to be a part of them, though with Lexi like everyone else I wish I wasn’t in that living room on July 13.

It’s to soon to discover all the lessons from the past month. Many of you know I use the phrase “beauty in ashes” to capture the Good that’s present each day. Right now the good is the SPD family that bonded together over two weeks to plan a wonderful remembrance of Lexi’s life. The good is seeing family and friends come together to celebrate love. The good is knowing I’m loved and I have been encouraged by many different individuals. My faith still holds to the truth of Jesus and that there will be a day with no more tears and no more pain.

Friends don’t lose hope our work is just beginning. We are stronger together. I look forward to continuing to serve alongside the fine men and women of the Seattle Police Department.

Miss Leah Zielinski you’ve been by side through all of this and your love continues to encourage me. Thanks for making a tee time for us. Yes, I did get some golf in during this time.
