When life gets tough, gratitude can feel like the last thing on your mind. But here’s the truth, it is in those difficult moments when gratitude is most powerful. Let’s be clear - it’s NOT about ignoring your pain or pretending everything is perfect. We are not suggesting toxic positivity, or ignorance. Instead, it’s about seeing and recognizing the goodness in life even when things feel dark.
💜
If you have a hard time cultivating gratitude, below are some suggestions on how to practice it, even when life feels overwhelming:
1️⃣
Start Small: You don’t need to be grateful for big, monumental things. On tough days, focus on the little things - a warm cup of coffee, a quiet moment of peace, a beautiful sunset, etc.
2️⃣
Keep a Gratitude Journal: Take a few minutes each day to write down 3 things you’re grateful for. Even in hard times, there are always things (however small) that are good. Writing them down makes them more tangible and reminds you that life, even in its challenging times, offers moments of good. Plus you can look back at things you’ve written down in the past when your life is feeling empty.
3️⃣
Lean on People: Expressing gratitude for the people who support you can deepen your relationship with them and remind you that you’re not alone. Whether it’s a quick thank-you note, a text, or just telling someone you appreciate them - it brings a sense of
connection and warmth during tough times.
4️⃣
Focus on the Present: In times of stress we often dwell on the past or worry about the future. Gratitude grounds us in the present. Focus on what is good right now - the things within your control. This can help you stop spiraling into negativity and gives you something to hold onto.
5️⃣
Practice Self-Compassion: Lastly, be kind to yourself. Sometimes, just acknowledging that you’re doing your best is enough. Practice gratitude towards yourself - your efforts, your courage, and the ways you keep showing up even when life is hard.
💙
Remember, practicing gratitude doesn’t erase the pain - but it does remind you that there’s still good in the world - and in you. And that’s a powerful place to start.

About a week ago one of our longtime athletes Anthea Gundersen made her long awaited return to the platform. We couldn’t be more proud of her for all of the amazing things Anthea has done since her last Powerlifting meet.
💪🏼
Here’s what she had to say about her experience.
🗣️
“This weekend I had the pleasure of competing at the WA State Powerlifting 2024 Championships. It was my first competition in over 2 years - my last one being May 2022. I had taken a couple years off to focus on getting sober and putting in the work to rebuild myself, my life, and the relationships I had neglected for far too long. While I didn’t place - I did get a new deadlift PR of 264 lbs. Which felt DAMN good! Especially after not really focusing on powerlifting much during my ongoing recovery.
💪🏼💔
It’s hard coming back after some time away from the scene. The competitor in me, the perfectionist in me, the ego in me - wanted to come back and place. Come back and be recognized on the scene again. To - in my mind - “kill it.” It was a humbling (and I think important) experience for me to come back, and not place. To witness the amazing women around me lift MASSIVE weights! It was a reminder of why I do this, how I aspire to improve, and an eye opening experience to help me understand the work I have to do to get to where I want to be.
💪🏼🖤
I may not be where I want to be, but I’m sure as hell glad I’m not where I used to be. I’m exactly where I need to be, right now. Growing. 🌱

This weekend is The Big Game for Patterson Training - we have many throughout the season, but the Mcminnville Highland Games is the one that gathers the biggest crowd. It will be a full weekend, with bagpipe and Highland dance competitions, British car show, sheepherding demos, food, vendors, live music, and so much more! McMinnville also has their very own Titan Class - Titan athletes represent the very top tiers of Masters, A, and Professional for both men and women. Athletes in these classes typically don’t mix, except for this game. Sometimes we’re a little starstruck to be friends with some of the people in this class (lookin’ at you ) and always leave feeling motivated to be our very best after getting to see them.
🙌🏼☺️
Stay tuned for pics and updates from Mcminnville!
