An entirely native palette was proposed for this Magnolia neighborhood townhouse project. Natives with a suckering growing habit were given priority, with the hope that they will survive to out-compete weeds on this sloped, dry, shaded and most likely neglected site.

The yard of a late 1800s farm house in the Hillman City neighborhood has remained largely untouched. An old apple orchard tree sits on the site of unfenced lawn.
This design proposes large swaths of prairie-like planting, screens of red and yellow twig dogwood, a small grove of crape myrtle, limited fencing with a modern aesthetic, pathways and patio of architectural slab, a kitchen garden with raised steel planters, alley parking defined by short gabion walls, and a small deck for sauna and soaking tub sheltered by an existing climbing rose.

This Wallingford Neighborhood home is heavily shaded by mature trees during the summer months and has a resident dog who loves to roam the yard. No plants from prior planting efforts survived.
This design incorporates a series of raised corten steel planters brimming with plant species that have a tropical vibe. Space is kept clear around the garden perimeter for a dog loop and to allow existing tree roots to breath. A seven-foot diameter paved circle and complimentary offset circle of crushed rock extends gathering space into the garden, which is cradled to the south by large brightly colored ceramic pots and a bird bath.

Planting design for this farmhouse renovation in Granite Falls aimed to screen the north property line and create a buffer of vegetation between two future residences.
The north planting area restores an existing soggy field to a forest, shrub and meadow habitat with seasonal interest through the use of native and adaptive species. Large swaths of yellow twig and red twig dogwood with pockets of wild rose and red flowering currant create winter and spring interest. A small footpath allows access to highbush blueberries and thimbleberry patches. A stylized meadow incorporating native rush and sedge species with an adaptive ornamental grass is speckled with milkweed, daylily, aster, native iris and mountain fleece flower.
